Job summary
ExxonMobil India seeks a Wells Quality Engineer for OCTG, based in Bengaluru. The role focuses on implementing quality best practices, reviewing supplier quality controls, and ensuring OCTG materials meet API and ExxonMobil standards.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing) required.
- Minimum 5–10 years in oil and gas OCTG quality.
- CGPA 7.0/10 minimum.
- Experience with API 5CT/5L and material testing specs (ASTM, NACE).
- NDT Level II in MPT/UT/LPT/RT/VT; MFL preferred.
- Lead Auditor certification in ISO 9001 or API Q1/Q2.
- Welding certification preferable (AWS/CSWIP).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Review and approve supplier Quality Control Plans and ITPs for OCTG and API/proprietary threading.
- Steward supplier evaluations and facility qualifications and API Q1 compliance audits.
- Assist Wells procurement to incorporate Wells Quality Manual into quality exhibits for tenders.
- Lead or support supplier assessments ensuring compliance with API/Q1 and industry standards.
- Conduct pre-production or kick-off meetings with suppliers.
- Ensure OCTG equipment is manufactured, inspected and tested per specifications.
- Organize verification programs via Third Party Inspectors to ensure conformance.
- Allocate budget for Third Party inspection agencies.
- Assist with NCRs and RFEs resolutions.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis for Downhole Equipment failures.
- Review TPI reports and close outstanding issues.
- Maintain knowledge of API specs and ExxonMobil quality procedures.
- Maintain relationships with engineers and suppliers to resolve quality issues.

The Wells Quality Engineer - OCTG is a broad role definition for individuals, generally with strong manufacturing quality background, supporting the global Wells business with a focus on Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) products including but not limited to casing, tubing and accessories. This role focusses on application of risk mitigations through quality best practices and processes to ensure integrity and compliance of materials, products, and equipment to industry and specified requirements and provides guidance on fit-for-purpose quality implementation. This position is embedded in the technical center (based in Bengaluru), provides quality expertise and support to business units and the global Wells Quality network.
- Responsible for review and approval of supplier Quality Control Plans and Inspection Test Plans for, OCTG and API / Proprietary Threading (VAM, JFE, Tenaris, etc.,).
- Steward supplier evaluations and assessments, facility qualifications (such as OCTG Mill and Threading facility) and API Q1 compliance audits.
- Provide assistance to Wells procurement teams to incorporate Wells Quality Manual (WQM) and associated Appendices into quality exhibits for tender documentation packages.
- Lead or support supplier assessments to ensure compliance with the ExxonMobil Quality specifications, API Q1 and industry standards such as API 5CT, API 5L and API 5CRA etc.,
- Conduct Pre-Production or kick-off meetings with suppliers to ensure their processes and products meet all quality requirements.
- Ensure all OCTG equipment (e.g., Casing, Tubing and Accessories) is manufactured, inspected and tested as per ExxonMobil and API specifications.
- Organize, plan, and supervise verification programs via Third Party Inspectors (TPIs) to ensure conformance with the applicable ExxonMobil specifications and industry codes and standards.
- Ensure appropriate budget allocation for Third Party inspection agencies in collaboration with Wells Teams.
- Assist Wells Engineering staff with resolution of Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and Requests-for-Exception (RFEs).
- Lead or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and failure investigations for Downhole Completion Equipment’s failures or non-conformities.
- Review TPI inspection reports, ensure outstanding concerns and issues are effectively addressed by the supplier prior to releasing the equipment for dispatch to project site locations.
- Maintain sound understanding of API specifications and ExxonMobil Quality procedures.
- Maintain strong relationships with ExxonMobil Principal Engineers, Wells team, and suppliers to resolve quality-related issues and ensure compliance with quality requirements.
Skills and Qualifications
- Must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in engineering (Mechanical or Manufacturing or Equivalent) as a minimum.
- Minimum 5-10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas OCTG equipment manufacturing / services in the field of Quality.
- Candidate must have a minimum CGPA of 7.0 out of 10.
- Must have experience in manufacturing and inspection of casing, tubing and accessory along with maintenance, handling, preservation, storage and major certification requirements.
- Must have strong knowledge in API specifications such as API 5CT, API 5CRA, API 5L and material testing specifications such as ASTM, NACE, etc.,
- Must hold NDT Level II certification in MPT, UT, LPT, RT, and VT. Knowledgeable in MFL inspection is preferable.
- Experienced and familiar with API and proprietary premium connection (VAM, Tenaris, JFE and Hunting), rotary connection inspection and threading operations.
- Certification as a Lead Auditor to ISO 9001 or API Q1 or Q2.
- Certification or welding experience (through a recognized body like AWS/CSWIP 3.1/3.2) is preferable.
- Knowledge of Materials selection, processing and corrosion is preferrable. Candidate must have strong interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
