Purpose of the role: To design, develop and implement solutions to complex business problems, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs and requirements, and design and implement solutions that meet those needs, balancing technology risks against business delivery, driving consistency.

Join us as a VP – Solution Architect at Barclays, responsible for supporting the successful delivery of Location Strategy projects to plan, budget, agreed quality, and governance standards. You will spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. You will harness cutting‑edge technology to revolutionize our digital offerings, ensuring unparalleled customer experiences.

Accountabilities

• Design and development of solutions as products that can evolve, meeting business requirements that align with modern software engineering practices and automated delivery tooling.
• Identification and implementation of the technologies and platforms.
• Targeted design activities that apply an appropriate workload placement strategy to maximize the benefit of cloud capabilities such as elasticity, serverless, containerisation, etc.
• Develop best practice designs incorporating security principles (e.g., defence in depth and reduction of blast radius) that meet the Bank’s resiliency expectations.
• Balance risks and controls to deliver agreed business and technology value.
• Adopt standardised solutions where they fit; if no standard solution fits, feed them into their ongoing evolution where appropriate.
• Provide fault finding and performance issue support to operational support teams, leveraging available tooling.
• Conduct solution design impact assessment in terms of risk, capacity and cost impact, including estimation of project change and ongoing run costs.
• Develop the requisite architecture inputs required to comply with bank governance processes, including design artefacts for architecture, privacy, security and records‑management governance.

Required Experience

To be successful VP – Solution Architect you should have experience with:

• Shaping and defining reusable solutions and architecture across disparate technologies that resolve complex business issues with simple and cost‑effective technology‑based solutions.
• Software and solution design across distributed and integrated architectures.
• API and integration strategies for both internal and external consumption.
• Hands‑on technical experience building and implementing software.

Desirable Skills / Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with investment products or in an investment/asset‑management environment.
• Knowledge of technologies used by financial service providers.
• Experience working with cloud technologies.
