Job description

Kuku is looking for a skilled Mid-Senior Video Editor with strong narrative instincts and a deep understanding of fast-paced, mobile-first storytelling. The editor will work across live-action and AI-generated micro-dramas, transforming scripts, performances, footage, AI-generated shots, dialogue, music, and sound effects into polished, emotionally engaging, and binge-worthy episodes. The ideal candidate should understand how to build powerful opening hooks, sustain audience attention, heighten dramatic moments, and construct compelling cliffhangers that encourage viewers to continue watching. Production Scope: This is a continuous, high-volume production role. The position will not be governed by a fixed monthly cap on the number of videos or episodes. Deliverables will be determined by Kuku TVs active production slate, episode complexity, quality requirements, and scheduled deadlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Edit live-action and AI-generated micro-drama episodes for mobile-first audiences.
  • Create strong opening hooks that capture viewer attention within the first few seconds.
  • Construct dramatic reveals, emotional peaks, narrative twists, episode-end payoffs, and compelling cliffhangers.
  • Translate scripts, director briefs, performances, footage, AI-generated visuals, dialogue, voiceovers, music, and sound effects into cohesive narrative episodes.
  • Maintain strong pacing, emotional progression, dialogue clarity, visual rhythm, and audience engagement throughout each episode.
  • Identify the strongest takes and performance moments to enhance emotion, character relationships, conflict, suspense, and dramatic impact.
  • Maintain story, character, costume, location, lighting, eyeline, spatial, and performance continuity across scenes and episodes.
  • Adapt edits specifically for the vertical 9:16 format while maintaining clear composition, visual hierarchy, readable performances, and mobile-screen impact.
  • Identify and correct common AI-video issues, including facial inconsistencies, lip-sync errors, flickering, warping, unnatural movement, frame instability, distorted details, and continuity mismatches.
  • Handle AI-assisted post-production tasks such as lip-sync correction, shot extension, visual cleanup, upscaling, frame interpolation, compositing, masking, tracking, and background replacement.
  • Seamlessly integrate live-action and AI-generated footage through colour correction, grading, reframing, compositing, motion treatment, and visual matching.
  • Create titles, captions, transitions, motion graphics, visual effects, recaps, end cards, and promotional elements wherever required.
  • Perform sound editing and basic sound design using dialogue, ambience, music, Foley, and sound effects to strengthen narrative and emotional impact.
  • Balance dialogue, music, and effects to ensure clarity across mobile devices and different viewing environments.
  • Work efficiently across multiple episodes and projects while meeting scheduled production and delivery deadlines.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, creative producers, writers, AI artists, sound designers, and other members of the production team.
  • Understand creative feedback, implement revisions accurately, and deliver updated versions within the required timelines.
  • Maintain organised project files, media libraries, proxies, naming conventions, version histories, project templates, and archival masters.
  • Conduct technical and creative quality checks before every final delivery.
  • Export episodes according to the required platform specifications, codecs, aspect ratios, resolutions, frame rates, and audio standards.
What We Are Looking For
  • 2 to 5 years of professional video-editing experience, preferably in fiction, micro-dramas, web series, television, films, digital entertainment, advertisements, or narrative short-form content.
  • A strong professional portfolio demonstrating cinematic storytelling, dramatic pacing, emotional editing, and technical polish.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe After Effects, including compositing, masking, tracking, cleanup, and motion graphics.
  • Working proficiency in DaVinci Resolve, particularly for colour correction, grading, finishing, and media management.
  • Strong understanding of narrative structure, screen direction, continuity, performance selection, shot progression, montage construction, and visual rhythm.
  • Experience editing dialogue-led scenes, dramatic confrontations, romantic sequences, emotional moments, action sequences, reveals, and cliffhanger endings.
  • Strong understanding of audience-retention principles, particularly opening hooks, escalating conflict, information control, pattern interruptions, emotional peaks, and cliffhanger construction.
  • Strong understanding of mobile-first and vertical 9:16 storytelling.
  • Ability to work effectively with footage from both live-action and AI-generated production pipelines.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted post-production workflows, including lip-sync correction, cleanup, upscaling, interpolation, shot extension, and compositing.
  • Ability to identify AI-generated visual errors and determine whether they can be corrected during post-production or must be returned for regeneration.
  • Good understanding of sound editing, dialogue balancing, music placement, ambience, Foley, and dramatic sound design.
  • Ability to colour-match footage captured or generated through different cameras, tools, sources, and visual pipelines.
  • Strong attention to character consistency, facial continuity, costumes, props, eyelines, screen geography, lighting, and background details.
  • Ability to manage multiple episodes, revisions, and priorities within a fast-moving production environment.
Preferred Qualification
  • Fluency in Hindi and working proficiency in English.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, time-management, and file-organisation skills.
  • Ability to work full-time from Kuku TVs Mumbai office.
  • Previous experience editing micro-dramas, vertical dramas, episodic fiction, web series, or other retention-driven entertainment content.
  • Experience working on fast-turnaround or high-volume episodic production pipelines.
  • Experience editing AI-generated characters, environments, performances, and visual effects.
  • Proficiency with generative AI video, image, lip-sync, cleanup, and enhancement tools will be considered an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with subtitle workflows, dubbing, localisation, and multilingual versioning.
  • Knowledge of proxy workflows, shared storage, project templates, automated syncing, media relinking, and structured post-production handoffs.
  • Basic understanding of OTT and digital-platform delivery standards.
  • A degree or diploma in film editing, filmmaking, media production, animation, or a related discipline will be advantageous, but is not mandatory.
