About this Role

Social Investment Managers & Advisors (SIMA Funds) is seeking a senior Credit Risk professional to join its team as Vice President of Risk. This is a pivotal role requiring a highly experienced risk management professional with substantial expertise in evaluating complex financial transactions across multiple asset classes and geographies. The successful candidate will be responsible for independently managing complex financing transactions, providing clear risk recommendations to senior management and the Investment or Credit Committee, and guiding junior team members in credit risk assessment methodologies. The role demands strong technical capability combined with excellent leadership skills, enabling the individual to lead comprehensive risk evaluations of large and mid-sized transactions while maintaining high analytical standards. This position requires hands-on involvement in all stages of transaction evaluation, from initial review through approval, documentation, and ongoing portfolio monitoring. The Vice President will work closely with investment teams, legal counsel, and senior management stakeholders to ensure that risk assessments are thorough, well-documented, and translated into actionable recommendations that balance commercial opportunities with appropriate risk mitigation.

Responsibilities
  • Independently lead credit risk assessment of complex and large financing transactions
  • Conduct comprehensive corporate credit underwriting and project finance analysis
  • Evaluate and structure financing transactions with responsibility for recommending or approving deals
  • Review and assess security structures, collateral, guarantees, assignment of receivables, project rights, cash-flow controls and financial covenants
  • Assess project-level credit risk, counterparty risk, and underlying creditworthiness with evaluation of mitigation options
  • Review and analyze key project agreements including Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), offtake agreements, Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts, O&M agreements, service agreements, energy saving contracts, Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAs) and other material project documents
  • Conduct financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, and debt-servicing capacity assessment
  • Perform financial modeling including DSCR, LLCR, CFADS, IRR calculations, leverage ratio analysis, sensitivity analysis and stress testing
  • Challenge transaction structures, assumptions and projections presented by Investment and Business teams
  • Provide clear direction on risk mitigants, transaction structure, security, covenants and approval conditions
  • Prepare concise and high-quality Risk Assessment and Credit Opinion papers
  • Present and defend risk recommendations before the Investment or Credit Committee
  • Guide, supervise and review work performed by junior risk professionals
  • Manage multiple transactions simultaneously with strong prioritization and execution
  • Take ownership of transactions from initial review through approval, documentation and portfolio monitoring
  • Engage with senior management, Investment Committee members, investment teams, legal counsel and other stakeholders
Requirements
  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in Credit Risk Management
  • Extensive experience covering Project Finance, Corporate Finance, Structured Finance, and Corporate Banking
  • Strong hands-on experience in corporate credit underwriting, project finance, and transaction structuring
  • Strong Corporate Banking or Corporate Credit background with responsibility for evaluating, structuring, recommending or approving financing transactions
  • Demonstrated experience in evaluating large and mid-sized corporate borrowers and project finance transactions
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flows, leverage, liquidity, debt-servicing capacity, working capital and repayment assessment
  • Strong technical understanding of financial modeling, DSCR, LLCR, CFADS, IRR, leverage ratios, sensitivity analysis and stress testing
  • Proven ability to review security structures, collateral, guarantees, assignment of receivables, project rights, cash-flow controls and financial covenants
  • Ability to review and assess Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), offtake agreements, Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts, O&M agreements, service agreements, energy saving contracts, Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAs) and other material project documents
  • Ability to evaluate project-level credit risk, counterparty risk, and host-facility underlying creditworthiness with mitigation assessment
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering or related field
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills with ability to guide, supervise and review work performed by junior risk professionals
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to identify business, financial, structural, contractual, security and repayment risks

  • Current or previous experience at Vice President level or equivalent senior credit/risk position preferred
  • Experience assessing sovereign risk, transfer/convertibility risk, and macroeconomic volatility in developing countries (preferred)
  • International experience with understanding of cross-border legal frameworks, local energy regulations, and asset repossession or enforcement challenges in emerging markets (preferred)
  • Experience assessing Energy Service Agreements (ESAs), Managed Energy Service Agreements (MESAs), and Off-Balance Sheet (OBS) structures (preferred)
  • Experience in lending, debt investments, or credit assessment across power and energy sector, particularly renewable energy, ESCO/energy efficiency, Energy-as-a-Service, and C&I energy solutions (preferred)
  • Experience in industrial and manufacturing businesses including textiles, apparel, footwear, chemicals and other industrial segments (preferred)
  • Experience in emerging-market lending, impact investing, DFI, private credit or investment funds (preferred)
  • CFA, FRM, CA, ACCA or similar professional qualification (preferred)
