Job summary

IMC is seeking a Surveillance Analyst in India to support day-to-day surveillance operations. You will monitor internal and exchange-generated alerts, investigate market abuse indicators, and collaborate with Compliance, Trading, and Tech teams across the business.

Job description

Our India Compliance team works closely with our Trading and Technology teams to manage the regulatory risks of our trading activities in India. As a Surveillance Analyst at IMC, you will assist with our day-to-day surveillance operations, monitoring and review of Internal and exchange generated alerts. Your role will cover many different aspects of IMC's compliance program, requiring you to work with people across all areas of the business. This role will report into Head of Compliance- India.

Your Core Responsibilities:
  • Investigating and resolving trade surveillance alerts across market abuse typologies including spoofing, layering, ramping, marking the close, wash trading, and insider trading indicators.
  • Monitor and investigate market surveillance alerts and electronic communications to identify potential market abuse risks and provide recommendations to enhance pre- and post-trade controls (and our surveillance platforms).
  • Managing alert queues, ensuring timely investigation, escalation to Compliance Officer and closure of alerts
  • Regular review of parameters and calibrating surveillance alert parameters as new markets, strategies, and products come online
  • Record keeping and preparing reports for internal approvals and regulatory submissions.
  • Experience in designing or calibrating surveillance alerts from scratch.
  • Driving data analysis and reporting in support of broader compliance team needs.
  • Experience with Multi-class surveillance like equities , derivatives or commodities is preferred.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Trading and Tech Teams.
  • Collaborate with internal developers and vendor teams.
  • Contribute to the design of alert specifications and maintain clear documentation
  • Communicating with regional compliance teams on global issues and projects.
  • Comfort working with large data sets
  • Working knowledge of SEBI and Exchange regulations
  • Experience with Excel-based data analysis (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, macros)
  • Promoting IMC's Compliance culture, awareness of regulatory developments, and best practices within the business.
Your Skills and Experience:
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in financial markets surveillance in India at a Trading Firm, Broker, Regulator, Exchange, or similar role.
  • Degree qualified in Finance, Business, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in trade surveillance and market abuse detection is essential, with a strong preference for candidates who have investigated alerts involving manipulative practices such as spoofing, layering, ramping or wash trading.
  • Familiarity with trade surveillance systems, whether in-house tools or third-party platforms (such as OneTick, SMARTS, NICE Actimize, Trading Technologies or First Derivatives) is highly regarded.
  • Understanding of proprietary trading and market making business models is an advantage.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical/ problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas or concepts clearly.
