A Telematics Systems Performance Engineer for Qualcomm SoCs (Snapdragon Automotive Platforms) must bridge embedded software, hardware architecture, and wireless technologies. The role focuses on profiling, analyzing, and optimizing SoC Performance, power, thermal, and KPI efficiency for connected vehicles and IoT.
Skillset Required
- Wireless Protocols: Familiarity with connectivity modules like 5G, LTE, WLAN.
- Auto Use Cases: Familiarity with telematics and automotive use cases such as C‑V2X (Cellular Vehicle‑to‑Everything), eCall, IMS, GNSS/location subsystems, PCIe, WLAN etc.
- Power Profiling: Hands‑on experience with hardware/software power management stacks, sleep states, and dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS).
- ARM Architecture: Solid grasp of ARM processor microarchitectures (e.g., ARMv8, ARMv9), multicore/multiprocessor configurations, and virtualization (Hypervisors like GVM, QNX etc.).
- Memory Hierarchy & Interconnects: Understanding of DDR interfaces, Non‑Cache Coherent Interconnects (NoC), AXI/AHB bus protocols, Memory Management Units (MMU/SMMU) cache hierarchy (L1, L2, LLCC) etc.
- System Profiling: Ability to correlate hardware counters (e.g., Coresight‑PMU) with software behavior.
- Debugging Tools: Proficiency with profiling and tracing tools such as Ftrace, Perf, Qualcomm Snapdragon Platforms etc.
- Workload Analysis: Ability to analyze complex use cases (e.g., simultaneous 5G data streaming, navigation, and AI inferencing) and pinpoint performance or thermal bottlenecks.
- Cross‑functional collaboration with global hardware, software, and product management teams to define hardware architecture trade‑offs.
- Scripting & Automation: Proficiency in Python and Bash for data parsing, test automation, and building performance analysis workflows.
- Operating Systems: Good knowledge of Embedded Linux (kernel internals, scheduling, locking mechanisms) and Android (AOSP, Binder, surface flinger).
- Lab Equipment: Hands‑on experience in handling evaluation boards, lab equipment like modem network simulators (Keysight, R&S, TBS etc.), power measurement setup, oscilloscope etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computers or Electronics Engineering.
- 8+ years of experience in SoC System performance analysis.
- Must be a quick learner and able to adapt to new technologies.
- Working experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python) and automation of workflows.
- Ability to create professional quality reports and slides using MS Office or advanced visualization tools.
- Minimum of 4+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience (Bachelor’s), 3+ years (Master’s), or 2+ years (PhD) in a related field.
