Job summary

Chevron ENGINE in Bengaluru seeks a Technical Safety Engineer to join the Facilities Process Engineering team. You will assess risks, lead PHA studies, and advise on consequence modelling to safeguard personnel, assets, and the environment.

The role collaborates with process, mechanical, and electrical engineers across projects and operations, ensuring safety integrity from design through execution. Based in Bengaluru with standard work hours aligned to business needs.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in process engineering or safety engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) from AICTE-recognized university.
  • Ability to lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies.
  • Experience with qualitative risk assessment software used by Technical Safety Team (Stature, PHA Pro).
  • Experience with quantitative risk assessment modeling software (PHAST, SAFETI).
  • Knowledge of facilities engineering in complex process facilities and OE requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical safety engineering expertise for projects and operations.
  • Conduct and lead PHA/LOPA and QRA studies per Chevron standards.
  • Advise on consequence modelling and safeguard identification to manage risk.
  • Support development and maintenance of facility Safety Cases.

About the position Chevron ENGINE has an exciting opportunity for a Technical Safety Engineer to join the Facilities Engineering & Projects team.

Reporting to the Lead, this role will be based in Chevron’s office in Bengaluru.

The Technical Safety Engineer is part of the Facilities Process Engineering organization within the Chevron ENGINE Center.

This position plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and integrity of engineering for capital projects and operations across Chevron.

This role is responsible for assessing and mitigating risks associated with engineering systems, processes, and equipment to protect personnel, assets, and the environment.

Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs.

Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide technical safety engineering expertise for projects and operations.
  • Prepare and perform Qualitative Studies (PHA/LOPA, MOC risk assessments) and Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) in conformance with Chevron standards, develop recommendations/risk reduction plans, and manage closure.
  • Advise on consequence modelling tools, parameters for quantitative risk models, identification of safeguards to maintain managed risk levels, and QRA results to influence design and operations decisions.
  • Support development and maintenance of facility Safety Cases across the Enterprise.
  • Support Safeguard Assurance programs including identification and maintenance of High Consequence Equipment.
  • Perform training & provide mentorship for technical skill development.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including process, mechanical, and electrical engineers—to integrate process safety considerations throughout the project lifecycle.
About you
  • 8+ years of experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline (mechanical, chemical, etc.) (B.E./B.Tech.) from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) university
  • Ability to lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) studies.
  • Demonstrated experience with Qualitative risk assessment software used by the Technical Safety Team such as Stature, PHA Pro, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience with Quantitative risk assessment modeling software used by the Technical Safety Team such as PHAST, SAFETI or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience in Facilities Engineering in complex process facilities, possibly through operation support engineering assignments or process design work.
  • An aptitude for engineering fundamentals such as mass transfer/distillation, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, process control and kinetics; especially as it relates to overpressure protection (flare and relief).
  • Familiarity with modelling software used by the flare & relief team such as iPRSM, HYSYS, Pro/II, FlareSim or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas is required: Technical Safety Engineering experience in operating facility or major capital projects.
  • Developing and facilitating both qualitative and quantitative risk assessment studies Safety Case and safeguard assurance program implementation.
  • Regulatory approval practices as they relate to risk management and process safety.
