Job summary

Gensler is seeking a Technical Designer to translate architect sketches into precise 2D/3D models and images, driving data center and critical facilities projects from concept to build. You will leverage Revit, BIM360 and other tools to deliver design intent with high technical quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, or equivalent.
• 3-5 yearsof related project experience
• Must have experience or interest in Critical Facilities; completed data center projects
• Strong proficiency with Revit experience desired, BIM360, Navisworks, Enscape, AutoCAD also beneficial.
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or SketchUp
• Knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and building codes
• LEED accreditation is a plus
• Knowledge of BIM and parametric design software, including Grasshopper, a plus
• Demonstrated commitment to sustainability with LEED/Living Building Challenge/WELL/Net Zero focus

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver informed project solutions based on market expertise and client goals
• Documentation coordination with consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, etc.)
• Coordinate with the project team, client, vendors, contractors, and consultants
• Resolve complex technical and design issues with team to produce innovative, technical, constructible solutions
• Lead and support the design team from concept to execution of the project
• Deliver documents with design intent and top-notch technical quality
• Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFIs
• Interface with permitting officials during permitting and construction phases
• Contribute to the project’s financial performance

Description

Our Critical Facilities practice area is unique, having the ability to draw expertise from and collaborate with all of Gensler’s practice areas to serve clients based on the client’s history. For example, building teams of experts in Gensler’s Critical Facilities and Health and Wellness Practices collaborate and share their respective expertise to deliver data centers for healthcare providers. Beyond data centers, our critical facilities team delivers projects for high performance/research/supercomputing, command and control centers, SCIFs, distribution and logistics, high-tech manufacturing, and various other technology-rich project types.

As a GenslerTechnical Designer, you will collaborate with our design team to develop innovative design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the phase of a project. The ask will be to translate the architect/ designer’s sketches and documents into realized2D/3Dmodels and images, You will leverage your technical acumen and Revit skills to drive client projects from concept through build in a collaborative team. Your role is critical in the design and delivery of world-class Data Centers and other Critical Facilities projects. Your Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture, or equivalent


• 3-5 yearsof related project experience


• Must have experience or interest in Critical Facilities; completed data center projects


• Strong proficiency with Revit experience desired, BIM360, Navisworks,Enscape, AutoCAD also beneficial.

Portfolios should include at least 1 project with this particular focus, and candidates should be prepared to talk to this in their interview, specially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard , Fitwell and /or Net Zero Building certification

Design Technology Qualifications

• Deep knowledge and experience in Autodesk Revit for design authoring, documentation, data extracts and project delivery.


• Experience in collaboration within the BIM context, including cloud-based markups, consultant coordination, and clash detection.


• Deep understanding of Real-Time Visualization development within the context of BIM, specifically in the use of Escape/ other rendering mediums.


• Experience in creating FF&E schemes and developing them through detailed technical specification.

Desirable

• Working knowledge in the use of VR walkthroughs and panoramas for client presentations, consultant coordination and internal design reviews.


• Ability to deliver efficient design and coordinate with both local and international teams alike.
