Job Description
As the Technical Product Officer (TPO), you will lead the product and platform strategy for SaaS-based digital solutions. This senior leadership role involves owning the product vision, driving technical and functional roadmaps, and ensuring efficient delivery of scalable, high‑performing products used across multiple African markets.
You will work closely with engineering, design, operations, and business teams, combining strong product sense with deep technical understanding to shape platforms that drive customer value and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Vision & Strategy
- Define the long‑term product vision and strategy for SaaS platforms.
- Translate customer needs, market trends, and business goals into a clear product roadmap.
- Drive quarterly/annual planning and ensure alignment across teams and leadership.
- Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead and mentor cross‑functional teams across product, engineering, design, operations, and business units.
- Ensure clarity of priorities, execution ownership, and successful delivery of key initiatives.
- Act as a senior product leader who aligns technical and business stakeholders.
- Platform & Technical Ownership
- Oversee architecture decisions, technical feasibility, and platform scalability.
- Work closely with engineering to plan technical improvements, manage tech debt, and ensure system reliability.
- Ensure smooth integration with backend services, APIs, and internal systems.
- Marketplace & Workflow Product Development
- Own core marketplace workflows such as onboarding, verification, buyer/seller tools, and transaction systems.
- Design and refine customer journeys that improve efficiency, trust, and user satisfaction.
- Go-To-Market & Business Alignment
- Partner with marketing, sales, and operations teams on GTM planning, product positioning, and launch strategies.
- Track product performance through adoption, retention, and revenue metrics.
- Enable data-driven decision-making across the product lifecycle.
- Product Lifecycle Ownership
- Lead the full lifecycle from discovery and concept validation to delivery, rollout, and ongoing iteration.
- Use agile methods to ship MVPs quickly, test hypotheses, and scale validated solutions.
- Establish strong processes for experimentation, customer feedback, and continuous improvement.
- Customer-Centric Design for SMB & B2B
- Build product experiences tailored for SMBs and B2B customers, focusing on:
- Easy onboarding
- Mobile-first behaviour
- Cost sensitivity
- Simple, intuitive workflows
- Ensure the platform remains usable, scalable, and reliable across varying customer segments.
- Operational Excellence & Governance
- Define standards for performance, security, scalability, and product quality.
- Oversee release planning, incident awareness, and post-launch improvements.
- Ensure compliance with regional regulatory and operational requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- 12–16 years of experience in product management, with at least 5+ years in senior/leadership roles.
- Strong experience in SaaS platforms, digital products, or marketplace solutions.
- Solid technical understanding of frontend/backend systems, APIs, integrations, scalability, and platform architecture.
- Proven success leading and scaling product teams in fast-paced environments.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience building products for SMB or B2B segments is a strong advantage.
