Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Tech Lead - AWS to design and developcloud-native applications and integration solutions, while guiding a small teamof engineers through the full software development lifecycle. This role is bestsuited to someone who wants to stay close to the code and the design table, notjust the roadmap: you will personally write production code, design solutionarchitecture for new features, and set the technical direction and codingstandards that the rest of the team follows on AWS.
You will work closely with product managers, architects, andfellow engineers to translate business requirements into well-designed,scalable, and maintainable AWS solutions, using services such as Lambda, APIGateway, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, and Glue.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Design anddevelop backend services, APIs, and data pipelines on AWS, writingproduction-grade code in Python, Node.js, or Java as a hands-on contributor(targeting roughly 60-70% hands-on coding/design, balanced with technicalleadership).
- Translatebusiness and product requirements into detailed technical designs, includingAPI contracts, data models, sequence diagrams, and component-levelarchitecture.
- Lead thedesign of serverless and event-driven solutions using AWS Lambda, API Gateway,Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, and SNS.
- Design andimplement data storage and processing solutions using Amazon S3, RDS(PostgreSQL/MySQL/Aurora), DynamoDB, and AWS Glue for ETL/ELT workloads.
- Owntechnical design decisions for a squad/pod: evaluate trade-offs, documentdesign options, and drive design reviews to consensus.
- Conductthorough code reviews, enforce coding standards, and champion clean, testable,well-documented code across the team.
- Break downepics into technical tasks, estimate effort, and guide sprint planning inpartnership with the engineering manager and product owner.
- Mentor andcoach engineers on AWS best practices, secure coding, performance optimization,and design patterns.
- Build andmaintain CI/CD pipelines (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, GitHub Actions) to supportfrequent, reliable, low-risk deployments.
- Implementinfrastructure-as-code using AWS CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform, and reviewIaC changes proposed by the team.
- Design forsecurity and compliance from the outset: IAM least-privilege roles, VPC networkdesign, encryption at rest and in transit, and secrets management.
- Set upmonitoring, logging, and alerting (CloudWatch, X-Ray) to proactively catchperformance and reliability issues, and lead root-cause analysis on productionincidents.
- Troubleshootand resolve complex production issues across the stack, acting as an escalationpoint for the team.
- Continuouslyevaluate new AWS services and features, and recommend adoption where theysimplify design or reduce cost.
- Collaboratewith QA to define testing strategy (unit, integration, load) for new designsand features.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor'sdegree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or arelated field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 6+ years ofprofessional software development experience, including at least 2 years in atechnical leadership or lead-developer capacity.
- Strong,hands-on development experience with AWS services, particularly Lambda, APIGateway, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, and Glue, in production environments.
- Expert-levelproficiency in at least one of Python, Node.js (TypeScript), or Java, with atrack record of designing and shipping production systems.
- Provenexperience designing RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures, including API versioning, authentication (OAuth2/JWT), and API gateway patterns.
- Solidunderstanding of relational and NoSQL database design, indexing, and queryoptimization (RDS and DynamoDB).
- Hands-onexperience with infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation, CDK, or Terraform) andCI/CD tooling.
- Experienceconducting code reviews, setting technical standards, and mentoring engineersof varying seniority.
- Comfortableowning technical designs end-to-end: from requirement discussions throughdesign documentation, implementation, and production support.
- Strongcommunication skills, able to explain technical trade-offs clearly to bothengineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- AWSCertified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional or AWS CertifiedDeveloper – Associate (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Experiencewith containerized workloads (ECS, Fargate, or EKS) is a plus.
- Exposure toApache Kafka, Apache Spark, or real-time streaming architectures is a plus.
- Familiaritywith data governance and compliance standards (GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2) is a plus.
