Job summary

F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG is seeking an Engineering Manager to focus on developing capabilities within the team and aligning with the function's vision.

You will remove roadblocks, enable career growth, and ensure sustainable performance across Roche's Developer Platform team. You will shape the Product/Service Roadmap from a technical perspective, partner with the Product Manager, and drive end-to-end delivery with a focus on reliability, security, and developer productivity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in people leadership, product/service management, program management, or a similar role.
• 2+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech/regulated healthcare technology industry.
• Bachelor or advanced degree in a relevant field.
• Strong understanding of software development platforms and platform engineering practices.
• Experience with SCM, artifact management and CI/CD tools.
• Ability to guide tools from scratch (POCs) and scale to thousands of users.
• Experience managing platform reliability and SLAs across distributed teams.

As an Engineering Manager you will focus on capabilities development of your team members that align with the function’s vision. Description of the area The Engineering Excellence & Experience (E3) organization builds the robust engineering bedrock that powers the future of medicine. We deliver foundational application lifecycle platforms, core developer platforms and AI tools required to build software seamlessly. By embedding application security and testing solutions directly into the engineering workflow, democratizing software delivery via low-code tools for non-technical creators, and surfacing data-driven insights, E3 accelerates secure, high-quality software delivery enterprise-wide. As part of the E3 organization, the Developer Platform team champions the provisioning of foundational, AI-enhanced tools and capabilities that empower developers across Roche. The Platform Foundations team, which is part of the Developer platform area, will offer solutions as per Roche enterprise standard in 3 main areas - Source Code Management, Artifact Management, and CI/CD Solutions. The team will provide a range of continuously evolving platforms fit for emerging technical complexities and accelerated development workflows, evaluation of market trends to efficiently incorporate new capabilities to support developers, full end-to-end lifecycle management of the platforms from new feature requests to delivery and maintenance, with on-going support through and after implementation to rapidly resolve user issues.

Job responsibilities

• Product and Service Delivery Leadership Responsible for co-creating the Product / Service Roadmap from a technical perspective, partnering with the Product Manager who is overall responsible. Accountable for the team's end-to-end delivery of features as part of the product development, ensuring alignment with the product roadmap and quality standards. Sets clear focus and priorities for the team's delivery work, ensuring alignment with product roadmaps. Actively removes impediments and roadblocks to progress, escalating when necessary to protect the team's focus. Manages and aligns stakeholders' expectations and needs, providing regular updates on progress and risks. Creates efficiencies in collaboration wherever possible across teams and functions.
• Performance & Optimization Defines success metrics, analyzes workforce capability trends, and identifies opportunities for optimization to achieve business goals. Translates data into actionable insights and regularly communicates delivery performance to stakeholders and the wider team. Identifies and implements process improvements within the team and in its interactions with other teams to boost efficiency and quality.
• Financial & Resource Mgmt. Supports the development of detailed business cases for new products or significant features. Makes data-driven decisions on how to allocate engineering, design, and other resources to maximize impact and achieve product goals. Manages the team's budget, including headcount, operational costs, and vendor contracts, ensuring financial responsibility.

Qualifications

• Experience 5+ years of experience in people leadership, product/service management, program management, or a similar role, with a proven track record of building high performing teams
• 2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated healthcare technology industry
• Education Bachelor or advanced degree
• Business or IT specification
• Technical & business skills Strong understanding of software development platforms, modern platform engineering practices, and robust software build/release management processes
• Deep familiarity with enterprise-grade Source Code Management (SCM), Artifact Management, and advanced CI/CD solutions
• Ability to evaluate emerging market trends and efficiently incorporate AI capabilities to drive developer efficiencies and accelerate time-to-market
• Proven ability to guide tools from scratch (POCs) and scale them to thousands of global users, managing the entire lifecycle from new feature requests to maintenance, support, and eventual decommissioning
• Experience managing platform reliability and meeting the SLAs of heterogeneous customers and globally distributed teams
• Strong understanding of software and product development methodologies, with a track record of translating user feedback into scalable platform features
• A fierce advocate for reducing developer friction, continuously evolving platforms to meet changing engineering demands, and directly boosting internal user productivity
