The Role

Teaching & Learning

• Deliver engaging and inspiring Drama lessons that foster creativity, confidence, collaboration, and communication.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality lessons aligned with the Cambridge curriculum and the school's academic expectations.
• Differentiate teaching to meet the diverse needs, abilities, and learning styles of students.
• Teach a broad range of drama disciplines including acting, improvisation, devising, script work, theatre studies, voice, movement, mime, characterisation, storytelling, stagecraft, directing, and performance techniques.
• Develop students' verbal communication, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and presentation skills.
• Encourage experimentation, reflection, and creative problem-solving through performance-based learning.
• Integrate theatre history, dramatic literature, and contemporary theatre practices into teaching where appropriate.
• Promote confidence, resilience, and artistic expression through performance.

Curriculum Planning & Assessment

• Plan and deliver a progressive Drama curriculum that develops practical, creative, and analytical skills.
• Design meaningful assessments through rehearsals, performances, scripted work, devised performances, reflective journals, and written evaluations.
• Monitor, assess, and record student progress using formative and summative assessment strategies.
• Provide constructive, personalised, and timely feedback.
• Prepare students for Cambridge Checkpoint, IGCSE, AS & A Level Drama (where applicable).
• Support portfolio development, practical examinations, coursework, internal moderation, and performance assessment in accordance with Cambridge requirements.
• Maintain accurate assessment records and contribute to academic reporting.

Student Development & Pastoral Care

• Build positive, respectful, and supportive relationships with students.
• Promote confidence, resilience, empathy, teamwork, leadership, and effective communication.
• Encourage students to develop creativity, emotional intelligence, and self-expression.
• Support students' personal, emotional and social development through outstanding pastoral care.
• Identify and nurture talented performers while supporting students requiring additional guidance.

Productions & Co-Curricular Contribution

• Lead school drama clubs, theatre groups, enrichment programmes, and performing arts initiatives.
• Direct and produce school plays, musicales, assemblies, showcases, and theatrical productions.
• Prepare students for local, national, and international drama festivals, competitions, and performances.
• Collaborate with Music, Dance, Visual Arts, and other departments to deliver interdisciplinary productions.
• Support script selection, casting, rehearsals, production planning and performance evaluation.
• Coordinate stage management, costumes, props, lighting, sound, and backstage operations in collaboration with relevant teams.
• Promote theatre and performing arts across the wider school community.

Theatre Resources, Facilities & Health & Safety

• Maintain a safe, organised, and inspiring drama studio, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues.
• Ensure the safe use, storage, and maintenance of costumes, props, lighting, sound equipment, staging, and technical resources.
• Conduct risk assessments for rehearsals, productions, performances, and theatre activities.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures during all practical activities.
• Support the planning and management of theatre resources and departmental budget requirements.

Safeguarding & Student Wellbeing

• Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and student wellbeing.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment where every student feels valued and able to participate confidently.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Drama, Theatre Arts, Performing Arts (Drama), Acting, Theatre Studies, or a closely related discipline is essential.
• A recognised teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent) is preferred.
• Minimum three years' teaching experience in a recognised school, academy, conservatoire, or performing arts institution.
• Experience teaching Cambridge Primary, Lower Secondary, IGCSE, and/or AS & A Level Drama is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated expertise in acting, directing, theatre production, and performance.
• Experience directing school plays, productions, musicales, or theatre festivals.
• Knowledge of stagecraft, lighting, sound, costume, and theatre production processes.
• Experience working within an international or British curriculum school is desirable.
