Job description

Siemens Technology and Services Private Limited

Mid-level Professional

We empower our people to stay resilient and relevant in a constantly evolving world. We’re looking for people who are always searching for creative ways to grow and learn. People who want to make a real impact, now and in the future. Does that sound like you? Then it seems like you’d make a phenomenal addition to our vibrant international team.

We are looking for a System Engineer-DCS/VT

As a System Engineer - Data Communication System (DCS) and Video Transmission System (VTS), you will play a key role in designing and delivering railway telecom networks that support mission‑critical operational systems across complex rail and metro projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on high‑availability communication infrastructure covering trackside, station, depot, and control centre environments, while collaborating with global teams across design, engineering, integration, testing, commissioning, and handover.

You’ll make a difference by:
Wired Network
  • Design, configuration, and infrastructure planning of railway data communication networks for station, depot, OCC, and wayside applications.
  • Hands‑on experience in industrial Ethernet switch and router configuration using platforms such as Cisco, Fortinet, and Ruggedcom/ Scalance for mission‑critical transport applications.
  • Strong knowledge of communication protocols and services, including TCP/IP, VLANs, RSTP/MSTP, BGP, OSPF, NAT, ARP, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Proficiency in network diagnostics and troubleshooting using tools such as Wireshark, with the ability to analyse latency, packet loss, multicast behaviour, and interface‑level communication issues.
  • Experience in installation, testing, commissioning, and cutover support of railway or industrial communication networks.
  • Knowledge of optical fibre backbone, copper access networks, ring architectures, and network redundancy concepts aligned with project requirements and railway standards.
  • Ability to provide technical support for integrated telecom subsystems and develop migration or switchover plans for commissioned network environments.
Wireless Network
  • Deep understanding of wireless communication principles and IEEE 802.11 standards relevant to rail and metro communication environments.
  • Strong foundation in RF engineering and antenna theory.
  • Experience in RF design and planning to achieve reliable coverage, seamless roaming, and minimal interference across stations, depots, tunnels, and viaduct sections.
  • Knowledge of antenna placement, propagation modelling, fade margin considerations, and link budget analysis for railway applications.
  • Competence in wireless network architecture for operational, maintenance, and passenger‑information‑related railway applications.
  • Experience in WLAN, WWAN, and WMAN design and deployment.
  • Ability to conduct site surveys, spectrum analysis, and field validation activities in operational railway environments.
  • Hands‑on experience in access point configuration, controller integration, and performance optimisation for rail communication systems.
  • Capability to perform root cause analysis of RF‑related issues.
  • Experience in capacity planning and throughput analysis.
  • Knowledge of spectrum planning, channel reuse, and interference mitigation in dense and operationally constrained rail environments.

Design and implementation of cybersecurity measures for railway communication networks, including network device hardening, secure interface design, firewall and DMZ architecture, security logging, and access control. Experience in testing and commissioning of secure network architectures for mission‑critical transport environments is essential.

Support the Project Lead to rollout of Data Communication Systems (DCS) and Video Transmission Systems (VTS) for large‑scale rail and metro projects, ensuring robust, high‑availability telecom infrastructure for operational and security‑critical applications.

Take end‑to‑end ownership of the telecom application scope from both technical and commercial perspectives, coordinating with OEMs, subsystem suppliers, civil and MEP interfaces, contractors, project management, and customers to ensure successful execution.

Application planning, controlling, and reporting:

Define project objectives for DCS and VTS packages in alignment with customer specifications, interface requirements, telecom architecture, and project management goals. Develop engineering deliverables, implementation plans, and project documentation, and ensure disciplined controlling and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Coordinate the implementation of complex railway telecom applications in collaboration with international partners, ensuring seamless integration with signalling, OCC, station systems, depot systems, and other interfacing subsystems.

Exploration of further business opportunities:

Identify opportunities to create additional value during project execution, including scope enhancements, change requests, and new application work packages that support project and business growth.

Provide technical leadership to the application team, support resource planning, and drive effective collaboration across engineering and project functions to deliver high‑quality, integrated solutions.

  • Projects Support functions and Quality Management
  • System Engineering and Hardware and Software Engineering for Interlocking and Diagnostic Systems
  • Test Management
