Job summary

eBay is seeking a Senior Storage Software Engineer to architect and implement next-generation storage in Kubernetes, focusing on block, file, and object storage at scale. You will write production code and solve distributed-systems challenges.

You\'ll design CSI-based, Kubernetes-native storage solutions, optimize for performance, and mentor other engineers while collaborating on architecture reviews and driving storage innovations across the platform.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in storage or distributed systems.
• Strong programming in C++, Go, Rust, or Java.
• Deep knowledge of Block, File, or Object Storage technologies.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure.
• Knowledge of CSI, NVMe/NVMe-oF, SCSI/iSCSI, NFS, S3, io_uring, SPDK, replication, or erasure coding is desirable.
• Bachelors or Masters in CS/CE; Master’s preferred.

Storage Software Engineer – Distributed Storage & Kubernetes

About The Role

• We are looking for a Senior Storage Software Engineer with 8-12years of experience to architect and build next-generation block, file, object running at scale in Kubernetes environments.
• This is a deeply technical, hands-on role. You will define storage architecture while actively writing production code, solving complex distributed-systems problems, optimizing performance, and driving critical technologies from design through production.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable Block, File, and Object Storage systems.
• Build distributed storage data-plane and control-plane components.
• Use AI coding agents to your advantage to boost productivity and lead us to the future of AI native engineering. Capable of giving the right context and detailed requirements to the Agent.
• Develop Kubernetes-native storage solutions using CSI, operators, controllers, and CRDs.
• Write high-quality production code in C++, Go, Rust, Java, or similar languages.
• Design for high availability, replication, fault tolerance, data durability, and recovery.
• Optimize storage systems for IOPS, throughput, latency, CPU, memory, and network efficiency.
• Debug complex issues across Linux, Kubernetes, networking, and storage layers.
• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews and mentor other engineers.

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of software engineering experience in storage, distributed systems, or infrastructure software.
• Strong programming experience in C++, Go, Rust, Java, or equivalent.
• Deep knowledge of Block, File, or Object Storage technologies.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, Linux, networking, and I/O architecture.
• Experience with Kubernetes and containerized infrastructure.
• Experience with technologies such as CSI, NVMe/NVMe-oF, SCSI/iSCSI, NFS, S3, UBD, io_uring, SPDK, replication, or erasure coding is highly desirable.
• Bachelor’s or Master degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering. Master’s degree preferred.
