Role Overview
The Storage & SAN Engineer will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise storage environments, predominantly based on Hitachi Storage systems. The role involves SAN fabric administration, performance tuning, capacity planning, incident resolution, and coordination with OEM (Hitachi) for escalations. The engineer will work closely with infrastructure, backup, and virtualization teams to ensure high availability of storage services.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hitachi Storage Management
- Administer and manage Hitachi VSP (G/F Series), HCP, HNAS, and related platforms.
- Perform storage provisioning, LUN allocation, volume expansion, and performance tuning.
- Monitor and manage Hitachi Ops Center, Device Manager, and Storage Navigator.
- Execute microcode updates, storage firmware upgrades, and patches.
- Conduct health checks, system diagnostics, log analysis, and redundancy validation.
2. SAN Fabric Administration
- Manage and configure Brocade / Cisco SAN switches.
- Perform zoning (single/multiple initiator), VSAN management, port configurations.
- Monitor fabric performance, resolve SAN congestion, and detect bottlenecks.
- Troubleshoot fabric-level issues, link failures, port flaps, and path failures.
3. Storage Operations & Support
- Handle incident, request, and change management as per ITIL standards.
- Troubleshoot storage performance issues, host connectivity errors, and multipathing issues.
- Provide L2/L3 support for storage outages and RCA documentation.
- Coordinate with Hitachi support for escalations and replacement activities.
4. Capacity & Performance Management
- Monitor storage utilization, capacity forecast, and resource optimization.
- Generate performance reports, trend analysis, and tuning recommendations.
- Manage replication technologies (TrueCopy, ShadowImage, GAD).
5. Integration with Server & Backup Teams
- Ensure proper storage mapping to VMware, Windows, Linux servers.
- Work closely with backup teams to configure VTL/NAS-based backups.
- Validate storage performance for virtualized and mission-critical applications.
Required Skills & Expertise
Technical Skills
- Hands-on experience with Hitachi VSP G/F Series, HCP, Ops Center, and HNAS.
- Strong knowledge of SAN technologies, including zoning, multipathing (MPIO), FC protocols.
- Experience with Brocade or Cisco SAN switches.
- Knowledge of replication technologies: TrueCopy, ShadowImage, GAD, Universal Replicator.
- Understanding of VMware storage integration (datastores, VMFS, RDM).
- Familiarity with ITIL process Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
- OS-level understanding of Windows / Linux storage mapping.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Hitachi Qualifications (HQT / HCP / VSP Installation & Configuration)
- Brocade or Cisco SAN certification (optional but preferred)
- ITIL Foundation Certification

Education
- BE / B.Tech / B.Sc / MCA or equivalent technical qualification.
