Job summary

Arm Limited in Bengaluru seeks a senior software engineer for the Open-Source Software group to advance the arm64 Linux kernel, firmware interfaces, and driver development in a high-performance environment. You will contribute to upstream efforts and internal codelines, shaping Linux kernel quality and test coverage.

You will work with kernel bring-up teams on new hardware, debug complex issues, and participate in KernelCI and linux-next activities.

Qualifications

  • Proficient C programming experience with low-level systems
  • Credible experience maintaining internal Linux codebases
  • Experience debugging across Linux subsystems
  • Familiarity with Python scripting and automation

Responsibilities

  • Be a member of the core arm64 Linux Kernel team responsible for upstream port and internal codelines
  • Integrate new features to internal code lines and maintain for internal/external use
  • Maintain and improve Linux kernel quality, KVM on arm64, test systems
  • Develop tests to validate features and improve CI coverage
  • Upstream new tests and fixes
  • Investigate test failures and support kernel changes with hardware bring-up teams
  • Collaborate with KernelCI and linux-next maintenance

Job Overview:

Responsibilities:

Our Open-Source Software group is enabling new Arm architecture in projects such as kernel, firmware, system control and driver development, for a variety of target sectors. Software on Arm must be fast, efficient, and secure, and support the very latest Arm architectural features and standards. We're looking for software engineers with experience of writing low-level C code, standards-based firmware, and operating system design who enjoy working as part of the wider open-source community.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:
  • Being a member of the core arm64 Linux Kernel team responsible for maintaining the upstream Linux port and our internal codelines headed for upstream
  • Integrate various new features developed by core arm64 Linux Kernel team to internal code lines and maintain them for internal and external use
  • Work to maintain and improve the quality of the Linux kernel, KVM on arm64, monitoring and improving test systems
  • Develop tests to validate features and improve CI coverage
  • Upstream new tests and fixes
  • Investigate test failures reported externally and internally
  • Work closely with new hardware platform bring up teams, debugging issues and supporting Linux kernel, KVM changes
  • Follow and support KernelCI community and linux-next maintenance needs
Required Skills and Experience :
  • Minimum 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient C programmer
  • Desire and ability to work as part of a team
  • Credible experience maintaining internal Linux codelines
  • Experience of debugging issues on across various Linux subsystems
  • Familiar with Python scripting and automation
“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience :
  • Armv8-A Architecture
  • Arm64 assembly language
  • Understanding of Linux Memory Management and Virtualisation
  • Experience of submitting patches to Linux mailing list and reviews
