Job summary

Databricks in Bengaluru invites senior engineering leaders to own multiple platform initiatives across scalability, reliability, and developer experience. You will drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate across teams to deliver scalable AI-enabled data platform features.

We seek 12+ years in Python/Java/Scala/C++, strong distributed systems background, and a track record building SaaS or SOA platforms.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of production level experience in one of: Python, Java, Scala, C++, or similar language.
• Experience developing large-scale distributed systems from scratch.
• Experience working on a SaaS platform or with Service-Oriented Architectures.

Responsibilities

• Complete ownership of multiple platforms: defining and owning execution on dimensions like scalability, platformization, and reliability.
• Platformize serving infrastructure: design abstractions to support current and emerging use cases (e.g., AI) and enable scalable product experiences.
• Drive cross-org impact, collaborate and build consensus among stakeholders across functions.
• Re-architect platforms for scale: redesign systems to handle 10X–100X growth.
• Build amazing developer experience: streamline platform onboarding from weeks to hours.

The Core Experiences Platforms Org in Bangalore is responsible for the main set of platforms to access and interact with core assets such as Workspaces, Notebooks, SQL queries and the necessary serving infrastructure to power multiple User Experiences. Databricks is experiencing very high growth, and several critical services rely on the platforms of the Core Experiences Platforms Org. We are focused on redesigning our systems to support the next stage of growth.

Your role will be crucial in:

• Complete ownership of multiple platforms: You will be responsible for defining and owning execution on a few dimensions of critical importance for the company: scalability, pjatformization, reliability.
• Platformize serving infrastructure: Design abstractions that can support a wide range of current as well as emerging use cases (such as AI), determine the right tradeoffs and build consensus across Databricks to create as well as scale seamless product experiences for customers.
• Drive cross org impact, collaborate and build consensus among different stakeholders across several functions.
• Re-architecting Platforms for scale: Redesign our existing systems to handle 10X to 100X increase in scale.
• Build amazing developer experience: Revolutionize platform onboarding to cut down time from weeks to mere hours, enhancing efficiency and user experience.
• Developing Impactful Features: Create features that significantly enhance both product functionality and end-user experience, driving meaningful improvements across Databricks.
• Fostering Engineering Excellence: Cultivate a strong engineering culture focused on quality and productivity, setting a high standard for the team.
• Mentoring Future Leaders: Act as a role model for junior team members, guiding their growth and development.

What we look for:

• 12+ years of production level experience in one of: Python, Java, Scala, C++, or similar language.
• BS (or higher) in Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience developing large-scale distributed systems from scratch.
• Experience working on a SaaS platform or with Service-Oriented Architectures.
