Job summary

Walker Digital Table Systems, LLC is seeking a hands-on Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale distributed systems powering our core platform. You will own solutions end-to-end—from design through deployment—across microservices, event-driven architectures, and high-availability environments.

You will develop using Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and Kafka on Linux, with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) and contribute to CI/CD pipelines, observability, and production

• 8+ years of software development experience with hands-on backend engineering.
• Proven track record delivering scalable, production-grade distributed systems.
• Experience in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) within fast-paced teams.

About the Role

WDTS is looking for a hands-on Backend Engineer to design, build, and scale distributed systems that power our core platform. You\'ll own solutions end-to-end — from technical design through production deployment — working across microservices, event-driven architectures, and high-availability systems that need to perform reliably in real-time, high-stakes environments.

What You’ll Do

Technical Design & Architecture

Understand business requirements, perform impact analysis, and design scalable end-to-end technical solutions from concept to implementation

Design microservices, distributed systems, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures using the Controller-Service-Repository pattern

Apply strong software design principles, design patterns, and architectural best practices to build clean, maintainable, and extensible code

Hands-on Development

Build enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and Kafka on Linux environments

Integrate with third-party systems, enterprise platforms, messaging systems, and complex API ecosystems

Contribute to Kubernetes-based, containerized, cloud-native deployments with CI/CD pipelines and observability built in

Performance & Reliability

Drive performance optimization, caching strategies, database optimization, scalability, and resilient system design

Lead debugging and troubleshooting across application, database, messaging, and infrastructure layers using root cause analysis

Establish monitoring, logging, and alerting practices to maintain system reliability in production

Delivery & Collaboration

Evaluate technical feasibility, build proof-of-concepts, and independently drive projects from design through production deployment

Mentor engineers, conduct code and design reviews, and produce high-quality technical documentation

Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to align priorities and ensure cohesive delivery

Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka, Linux, and enterprise application development.

Qualifications

Education: Computer Science or related degree, or a combination of education and relevant experience

Experience:

8+ years of software development experience with hands-on backend engineering

Proven track record designing and delivering scalable, production-grade distributed systems

Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) within fast-paced teams

Technical Skills

Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and Linux

Experience with microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architecture

Proficiency with containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)

Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native deployment practices

Practical experience with performance tuning, caching, and database optimization

Familiarity with AI-powered engineering tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) is a plus

Soft Skills

Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Strong ownership mindset — able to independently drive a project from design to deployment

Ability to mentor and elevate the engineering skills of peers
