Job summary

Coupang is seeking an experienced Staff Security Software Engineer in Bengaluru to design and build scalable security platforms. You will lead distributed systems architecture and collaborate with Security, Platform, and Software teams to deliver innovative security solutions in a fast-paced AI-enabled environment.

You will mentor engineers, drive technical direction, and help strengthen Coupang's security posture across products and services.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Proven technical leadership for cross-functional engineering initiatives.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, Python, or C++.
• Experience designing, building, and operating scalable software platforms.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, distributed systems, performance, and reliability.
• Experience with AWS and IAM, including security controls and logging.
• Security engineering experience in vulnerability management, IAM, or detection and response.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science or related field.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Staff Security Software Engineer to design and build scalable security platforms, and capabilities that strengthen Coupang's security posture.

This is a hands‑on individual contributor role for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems at scale. You will lead the design and implementation of distributed systems, influence technical direction across teams, and partner with security, platform, and software engineering organizations to deliver innovative solutions in the evolving security and AI landscape.

What You Will Do

• Lead the design, development, and delivery of high‑impact security engineering initiatives.
• Build scalable security platforms and distributed systems that address complex security challenges.
• Collaborate across Security, Engineering, Infrastructure, and GRC teams to translate ambiguous requirements into production‑ready solutions.
• Drive architecture, technical design reviews, and engineering best practices.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, AI capabilities, and security solutions through prototypes and technical investigations.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across teams.

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience building large‑scale distributed systems.
• Strong technical leadership experience leading complex, cross‑functional engineering initiatives.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, Go, Python, or C++.
• Experience designing, building, and operating highly scalable and reliable software platforms.
• Strong understanding of system architecture, distributed systems, performance, and reliability.
• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably AWS, including IAM, security controls, logging, and access management. Security engineering experience in one or more domains such as vulnerability management, GRC, application and data security, IAM, detection and response, or security automation.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building security products, platforms, or services at scale.
• Experience leveraging AI technologies to improve security capabilities or engineering productivity.
• Track record of driving architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams and organizations.
• Experience solving large‑scale availability, scalability, and performance challenges in production environments.

Type of work model

• Hybrid

Our Hybrid work model: Coupang hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration that acts a catalyst to enrich the experience of employees. Employees are required to work at least 3 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 2 days a week, depending on the role requirement. Some businesses may require more time in office due to nature of work.
