Job summary

symplr is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across architectural decisions, design reviews, and cross-team delivery of scalable software systems. You will mentor engineers, shape engineering standards, and drive cloud-native initiatives across AWS/Azure.

The role combines hands-on development with strategic influence to enable secure, reliable, and cost-efficient platforms for healthcare workforce management.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in Java 17+ and Spring ecosystem for scalable enterprise apps.
• Frontend experience with React, TypeScript, and modern JS patterns.
• Deep cloud experience across AWS/Azure with ECS/EKS/AKS and related services.
• CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and IaC (Docker, Terraform).
• Observability, reliability engineering, and distributed tracing.

Responsibilities

Symplr is looking for a Staff Software Engineer. This role would require technical leadership for critical business initiatives, driving the architecture, design, development, and evolution of complex software systems. The role combines deep hands-on expertise with cross-team technical influence, enabling multiple scrum teams to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions while mentoring engineers and advancing engineering excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of scalable full-stack solutions using Java, React, and cloud technologies, ensuring they meet both business and technical needs.
• Drive the continuous improvement of microservices, APIs, and user-facing applications with a focus on scalability, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Provide technical guidance across multiple teams, helping shape architectural decisions, engineering standards, and development best practices.
• Build and optimize cloud-native solutions on AWS/Azure, with a strong focus on reliability, observability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
• Enable faster and more reliable software delivery by advancing CI/CD automation, DevOps practices, and release processes.
• Improve system performance and scalability through thoughtful design of data access patterns, integrations, caching strategies, and distributed systems.
• Work closely with Product Managers, Architects, and business stakeholders to turn strategic goals into practical and scalable technology solutions.
• Facilitate design reviews and technical discussions, promoting high-quality, maintainable code and sound engineering practices.
• Mentor and support engineers across teams, helping them grow their technical skills while fostering a culture of learning and innovation.
• Take end-to-end ownership of complex initiatives, guiding them from initial concept and design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing support.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in Java 17+, Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, REST APIs, and microservices architecture, building scalable and resilient enterprise applications.
• Proven experience in developing modern frontend applications using React, TypeScript, Hooks, Redux with a focus on performance, accessibility, and reusable component design.
• Deep knowledge of AWS/Azure cloud platforms, including ECS/EKS/AKS, EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, IAM/Entra ID, and cloud-native application design.
• Experience in implementing CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and Infrastructure as Code using Docker, GitHub Actions/Azure DevOps, Terraform.
• Strong knowledge of observability and reliability engineering, including distributed tracing, structured logging, monitoring, metrics, SLOs, Datadog, CloudWatch, and Application Insights.
• Experience in using GitHub/Bitbucket for source code management, pull request workflows, branch strategies and code reviews.
• Hands-on experience implementing distributed caching strategies using Redis or similar technologies to improve application performance, scalability, resiliency, and high-throughput data access.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead design reviews, establish engineering standards, and raise the overall technical bar across multiple teams.
• Typically requires 11-14 years of software engineering experience, including significant experience leading the design and delivery of large-scale, business-critical applications in cloud environments.
