Job summary

Cohere Health seeks a Data Architect to lead the design of our enterprise data lakehouse, ensuring governance, semantic consistency, and scalable data platforms. You will bridge business needs with technical architecture, prototyping AI-driven data structures, and enforcing HIPAA/FHIR compliance across product lines.

You will partner with executive leadership, product, and engineering to translate complex data concepts into strategic, measurable outcomes that drive care quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in data engineering with staff/architect trajectory.
• Proficient in Python, SQL, and modern AI tools; able to prototype PoCs.
• Mastery of relational, dimensional, Data Vault 2.0, and graph/ontological modeling.
• Healthcare standards: HIPAA, FHIR, HL7; experience with HIPAA-compliant data platforms.
• Strong AWS data services knowledge: S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Lake Formation.
• Knowledge of data pipelines and orchestration tools: dbt, Airflow.
• Strong storytelling: translate abstract concepts to C-suite business value.

Opportunity Overview

We're hiring a Data Architect who will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for architecting the complete lifecycle data moves, transforms, and creates value across every product line we operate. You'll own the blueprint for our enterprise data lakehouse - setting the standards, governance, and strategy that elevate data from a byproduct of operations to the company's most valuable asset. We need someone who pairs deep mathematical and logical modeling expertise with a builder's instinct - someone who codes, prototypes fast, and proves out next-generation AI data architectures before committing the organization to them. This role would need experience with US healthcare domain data.

What You'll Do

Semantic Layer Governance: Set the technical standard and reference architecture for a universal semantic layer across multiple distinct data products, ensuring unified definitions of complex metrics and healthcare business entities across

Architect the Enterprise Context Layer: Define, scale, and govern the global Enterprise Ontology (abstract domain maps, business entity classes, and entity-relationship rules) that serves as the backbone for Agentic AI systems.

AI-Native Prototyping: Leverage modern AI-native development environments (such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to rapidly generate, iterate, and document blueprints for complex enterprise data schemas and metadata layers.

Security & Compliance Leadership: Embed regulatory compliance (HIPAA, FHIR) and security principles into platform design. Partner with security and compliance teams to ensure architectural decisions support audit readiness and risk mitigation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with executive leadership, product management, and engineering to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. Communicate complex architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

ISMS Roles And Responsibilities

• Good knowledge of Information practices.
• Assist the manager in all the information security activities implementation and maintenance process.
• Ensuring the team and imparted with Competence related to Information security
• Responsible for implementation of security policies and procedures and report any issues to the Information Security Manager.

Required Qualifications

Must-Haves

• 12+ years of deep data engineering, with a proven trajectory of operating in a Staff, Principal, or Architect capacity.
• Must be highly proficient in Python, SQL, and modern AI tools with a strong desire and ability to write code and spin up rapid, validating PoCs.
• Mastery over diverse data modeling languages and paradigms- including Relational, Dimensional, Data Vault 2.0, and Graph/Ontological modeling frameworks.
• Healthcare standards and compliance expertise: Deep understanding of healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) and proven experience architecting HIPAA-compliant data platforms in production environments
• Deep expertise in modern data platforms and cloud-native architectures, with strong command of AWS data services (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Lake Formation)
• Understanding of data pipeline orchestration, transformation frameworks (dbt, Airflow), and modern data stack components
• Outstanding executive presence and communication skills, with a track record of translating highly abstract semantic concepts (ontologies, knowledge graphs) into compelling business value narratives for C-suite and business stakeholders.

Nice-to-Haves

• Direct experience designing semantic graphs or metadata abstraction layers specifically designed to optimize multi-agent AI workflows.
• Familiarity with enterprise metric storage paradigms and middleware tools (e.g., dbt)
• Expertise in modern data lakehouse architectures leveraging open table formats such as Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake.
• Contributions to open-source projects or thought leadership in the data architecture community
