Organizational Context

UNFPA is the United Nations agency dedicated to sexual and reproductive health and rights, aiming for a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person's potential is fulfilled. Operating in India since 1974, UNFPA India supports national efforts to advance SRHR, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls. The agency addresses challenges posed by evolving social, environmental, and humanitarian contexts, including climate change impacts on essential services and vulnerable populations.

Job Purpose

This assignment supports UNFPA India's strategic priorities in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), with a focus on gender equality, gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, adolescent and youth SRHR, family planning, maternal health, and climate resilience. The role will contribute to evidence generation, provide technical assistance, support policy and programme development, facilitate stakeholder coordination, and enhance capacity building. The position is crucial for integrating gender, rights, inclusion, and resilience considerations across UNFPA's programmes, ensuring effective responses to emerging needs and challenges in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

The UNV Specialist will support the integration of climate change, resilience, and adaptation into SRHR programming, ensuring gender equality, human rights, and inclusion. Key duties include coordinating and engaging with national and sub-national stakeholders, including government ministries and development partners, to follow up on agreed actions. The role involves supporting UNFPA's engagement with national initiatives on SRHR, gender equality, GBV, adolescent health, climate and health, and humanitarian preparedness by providing technical inputs and compiling evidence. Assistance will be provided to states in implementing national priorities, including climate-risk assessments and gender-responsive programming. The position also entails supporting the preparation and dissemination of technical knowledge products, facilitating capacity-building activities for various stakeholders, and assisting with the monitoring, documentation, and reporting of programme activities and results.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience is required in areas such as public health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender, GBV, adolescent and youth health, climate change, or humanitarian preparedness. Essential skills include strong analytical, organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills for developing technical documents and presentations. The candidate must be able to establish effective working relationships, demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, maturity, and tact, and work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.

Specific expertise areas include gender and women's rights, public health, climate change, and environment. The role requires strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to gender equality, human rights, and inclusion.
