Job summary

Amazon Lab126 is seeking a Sr. Software Quality Assurance Engineer - Audio to lead end-to-end QA for audio features across devices. You will define test plans, execute functional and performance tests, and drive release sign-off from Day-0 to OK2SHIP.

You will build automated test suites, track KPIs like POLQA/MOS, and collaborate with DSP, firmware, and platform teams to ensure high-quality audio experiences.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of quality assurance engineering experience.
• 4+ years of delivering test frameworks, test tools, leading QA projects and initiatives.
• Experience in manual testing and automation testing.
• Experience scripting or coding.
• Hands-on experience testing audio, DSP, or embedded/consumer-device software.
• Solid understanding of digital signal processing and acoustic fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end audio QA for one or more device programs: define test plans, test cases, and acceptance criteria, and drive release sign-off (Day-0, GMC, OK2SHIP).
• Design and execute functional, regression, and performance tests for audio features (VoIP, ASR/wake-word, ANC/passthrough, playback, echo cancellation/AEC, beamforming, spatial audio).
• Build and maintain automated test suites and lab pipelines; expand coverage and reduce manual effort through shift-left automation.
• Define and track audio quality KPIs (POLQA/MOS, FRR/FAR, ERLE, latency/jitter, loudness) and report defect-escape rate, coverage, and release risk to stakeholders.
• Triage, root-cause, and reproduce audio defects; partner with DSP, firmware, AFE, and platform teams to drive resolution.
• Own the test infrastructure and device/lab readiness (acoustic setups, rigs, calibration) needed for reliable, repeatable measurements.
• Represent audio quality in program reviews; surface regression and schedule risks with clear mitigation plans.
• Mentor junior QA engineers and raise the bar on test craft, documentation (e.g., TestRail suites), and review mechanisms.

Role

As a Software Quality Assurance Engineer - Audio, you will work with consumer application testing expertise. You will join the team of hands‑on, pro‑active, self‑motivated and seasoned SQA professionals. In this role, you will:

• Create test plans and test cases
• Efficiently execute test cases across all functional areas of our products
• Review product user interface for conformity to design guidelines
• Find, isolate, document, regress, and track bugs through resolution
• Interpret and report testing results, and be a vocal proponent for quality in every phase of the development process
• Work with Software Development Engineers to understand the overall technical architecture and how each feature is implemented

Basic Qualifications

• 6+ years of quality assurance engineering experience
• 4+ years of delivering test frameworks, test tools, leading the QA projects and initiatives experience
• Knowledge of QA methodology and tools, with demonstrated experience in an QAE role
• Experience in manual testing
• Experience in automation testing
• Experience scripting or coding
• Hands‑on experience testing audio, DSP, or embedded/consumer‑device software.
• Solid understanding of digital signal processing and acoustic fundamentals.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of UI Automation (preferably on mobile platforms) experience
• Knowledge of at least one modern object‑oriented programming language such as C++, Java, Objective C
• Experience with objective audio quality tools and metrics (POLQA/PESQ, ACQUA, MOS, ERLE).
• Familiarity with the hardware device lifecycle (EVT/DVT/PVT) and manufacturing release gates.
• Experience testing VoIP, wake‑word/ASR, ANC, or spatial/head‑tracked audio.
• Experience with acoustic measurement setups (HATS, anechoic/lab test rigs) and calibration.
