Job summary

Stryker Corporation is seeking a seasoned software engineer to contribute to prototyping, bench testing, and translating design inputs into robust engineering specifications for medical device software components. You will participate in code reviews and develop software aligned with architecture and regulatory expectations.

The role emphasizes design concept application, software development life cycle compliance, and collaboration across R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Marketing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science with 5+ years of work experience.
• Strong foundation in software design and development practices.

Job description

Work Flexibility: Hybrid

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct or design prototyping and bench testing
• Conduct problem solving, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against component and sub-system requirements
• Conduct research and studies to support product design
• Translate design inputs to engineering specifications and produce component and sub-system level designs
• Code development time/resource estimation to support projects
• Design new components applying various design concepts
• Generate and review the necessary documents with project teams (requirements, design, architecture, bugs, test)

Business Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate advanced understanding of customer needs and design inputs
• Demonstrate proficiency with product’s intended use and clinical procedures
• Learn how the financial models are constructed

Med Device Compliance:

• Follow fundamental industry standards, design requirements and test strategies which apply to regulatory requirements
• Independently create or refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History file
• Follow R&D procedure like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System

General Responsibilities:

• Work cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success as a key member of the team, collaborating with others and solidifying relationships
• Quickly process and assimilate procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology required
• Work on complex problems, applying advanced experience and learnings
• Demonstrate ownership and prioritize work with minimal supervision
• Build relationships and influence among peers
• Lead code reviews for components in systems applying design principals, coding standards and best practices
• Develop and design software components per requirements and architecture defined

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering/ Computer Science or related discipline & 5+ years of work experience

Preferred Qualifications (Strongly desired):

• Technical Skills:
  • Exposure to programming skills. Design new components applying various concepts design concepts and patterns
• Design and Development Skills:
  • Experience with integrated development environments (IDE) for projects
  • Experience with software tools for static/dynamic analysis, memory management, code coverage and techniques for analyzing software
  • Integration and deployment processes experience
• Software Process Skills:
  • Experience in creating estimates for code implementation time/resource for assigned tasks
  • Experience in Software Development Life Cycle processes
  • Experience using Application Lifecycle Management /Traceability tools
  • Experience with regulatory and compliance standards applied to the SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle)
  • Experience with AI/ML, NLP, speech technologies, GenAI, LLMs, RAG architectures, or conversational AI.
  • Familiarity with technologies such as Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Services, Azure ML, LangChain, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or MLflow.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, monitoring, observability, and DevOps practices.
  • Exposure to speech recognition, voice applications, healthcare workflows, or real-time communication systems.
  • Experience working in Agile product development environments.

Remote – Role allows you to work the majority to 100% of time from an alternate workplace. These roles could have travel expectations, and you must work within the country of the job requisition location.

Field-based – You can expect to regularly work a majority to 100% of time at customer facilities and has a set territory or expectation to travel within a set boundary. Almost all sales roles would likely be qualified as field-based.

Onsite – Role is 100% located at a Stryker facility. Some ad hoc flexibility may be available depending on role, level, and job requirements. Manufacturing roles and any role that requires physical presence at the office would qualify under this category.

Hybrid – You can expect to regularly work in both an alternate workplace and a Stryker facility. Roles that are partially remote or co-located would qualify as hybrid, and the expectation to be onsite would be defined and agreed upon by your manager/supervisor.
