Job summary

Lowe’s India, based in Bengaluru, seeks a Senior Software Engineer – Java Backend for the HR AI Shed team. You will design, build, and support secure, scalable backend solutions combining Java/Spring Boot with Python AI development.

You will work with product, architecture, data, AI, security, and platform teams to deliver production‑ready microservices, APIs, and integrations in a hybrid U.S.–India delivery model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven ability to design and deliver scalable backend systems using Java/Spring Boot.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend applications and microservices with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
• Design and implement AI agents using MCP, ADK, tool integrations, and orchestration patterns.
• Create event-driven solutions using Kafka and other messaging technologies to support asynchronous processing and real‑time data exchange.
• Design, optimize, and maintain data models and access patterns for PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and other databases. Build resilient distributed systems and containerize with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Maven, Gradle; apply secure SDLC practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, HR stakeholders, architects, data scientists, and engineers to refine requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, design sessions, and production support activities.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering standards across the HR AI Shed team.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root‑cause analysis for permanent fixes.

About The Team

This position supports the HR AI Shed, a cross-functional team of approximately 8–12 members that operates as an AI SDLC execution team through a hybrid U.S.–India delivery model, with an estimated 50/50 distribution across both locations.

The team brings together product leadership, software engineering, frontend and backend development, agent development, data engineering, and platform engineering capabilities.

Its goal is to accelerate HR AI delivery by building reusable, governed solutions—including HR Compass, AI agents, integrations, and orchestration patterns—and to shorten the journey from business discovery to MVP from months to approximately six weeks, delivering measurable value for associates, leaders, and HR teams.

Job Summary

The Senior Software Engineer – Java Backend Developer will design, build, and support secure, scalable backend solutions for the HR AI Shed team. This role combines deep Java and Spring Boot expertise with Python-based AI development to deliver intelligent HR capabilities, including AI agents, tool integrations, workflow orchestration, and data-driven services.

The ideal candidate is an experienced hands‑on engineer who can translate complex HR business needs into reliable microservices, APIs, event‑driven integrations, and cloud‑native platforms. They will partner closely with product, architecture, data, AI, security, and platform engineering teams to deliver production‑ready solutions that are maintainable, observable, and secure.

Roles & Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend applications and microservices using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs. Build Python services, automation, and AI‑enabled components that support HR AI use cases.
• Design and implement AI agents using MCP, ADK, tool integrations, and orchestration patterns. Develop secure integrations between AI services, enterprise systems, data platforms, and HR applications.
• Create event‑driven solutions using Kafka and other messaging technologies to support asynchronous processing and real‑time data exchange.
• Design, optimize, and maintain data models and access patterns for PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and other relational or NoSQL databases. Build resilient distributed systems with appropriate error handling, retries, observability, logging, and monitoring. Containerize applications using Docker and deploy, scale, and operate services on Kubernetes.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, and automated quality gates. Apply secure software development practices, including authentication, authorization, encryption, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and secure API design.
• Collaborate with product managers, HR stakeholders, architects, data scientists, and engineers to refine requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, technical design sessions, and production support activities.
• Mentor engineers, promote engineering standards, and contribute to continuous improvement across the HR AI Shed team.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive root‑cause analysis through permanent, scalable fixes.

Years Of Experience

5+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Skill Set Required

• Strong hands‑on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with event streaming and messaging platforms, especially Kafka.
• Strong experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and build tools such as Maven and Gradle.
• Strong understanding of microservices, REST APIs, distributed systems, and secure software development practices.
• Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.

Secondary Skills (desired)

• Proficiency in Python for backend services, automation, or AI development.
• Experience developing AI agents, including use of MCP, ADK, tool integrations, and orchestration patterns.
