Job summary

TE Connectivity Corporation is seeking a Sr. R&D Product Development Engineer in Bengaluru to lead design, development, and enhancement of connector products.

• Knowledge of materials, finishes and contact physics related to Connector design.
• Knowledge of wire termination techniques.
• Experience with product qualification testing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop functionally robust and cost-effective Connector products to meet customer and market needs.
• Interact with global stakeholders (Product management/Sales) and customers to communicate technical details.
• Execute NPD projects including concept generation, validation, tolerance stack analysis, DFMEA, design reviews, and basic FEA simulations.
• Create detailed CREO drawings applying DFM/DFTA principles and develop product validation/qualification test plans.
• Manage sustaining activities for legacy products including customer queries, field failures, BOM & change management (ECR).
• Identify VAVE opportunities and collaborate with plants and stakeholders to implement them.
• Evaluate agency approvals (UL, CSA, VDE) requirements for products.
• Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives using TEOA / Digital methodologies.
• Showcase innovation mindset while delivering projects and mentor local/global teams.

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. R&D Product Development Engineer to join our global engineering team and drive the design, development, and enhancement of connector products. The role involves leading new product development initiatives, supporting existing product portfolios, and collaborating with cross-functional global teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that meet customer and market requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in connector design, sheet metal and plastic product development, manufacturing processes, and CREO-based product design, along with the ability to interface directly with customers, product management, sales teams, and manufacturing stakeholders across regions.

Responsibilities:

• Work within a global multidisciplinary team environment as Product Engineering with responsibility to design and develop functionally robust and cost-effective Connector products to meet customer and market needs
• Should be able to interact with global stakeholder (Product management/Sales etc.) and directly with Customers and communicate technical details efficiently.
• Deliver regional and global NPD projects which includes activities like Concept generation, Concept validation, tolerance stack analysis, DFMEA, conduct design reviews, basic FEA simulation, Creation of detailed designs and drawings in CREO by applying DFM/DFA principles, creation of product validation / Qualification test plans, DFM review, FAAR approval, perform component fit and function analysis.
• Execute Sustaining activities of legacy products like Customer queries, field failures, address design related manufacturing concerns, BOM & change management(ECR) in windchill, product improvements, necessary product design documentation/specification updates.
• Identify VAVE opportunities and work with plant and other stake holders to implement them.
• Should evaluate & handle Agency (UL, CSA and VDE) approval requirements for the products
• Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives using TEOA / Digital methodologies.
• Showcase 'Go-getter' and 'Innovation' mindset while executing the project deliverables.
• Ability to work as technical mentor and coach to local team and wider Global engineering community

Candidate Desired Profile:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Expert in design and development of Sheetmetal and Plastic products
• Working knowledge in CREO
• Deep knowledge of associated manufacturing processes (moulding, stamping, and Assy)
• Knowledge of materials, finishes and contact physics related to Connector design
• Knowledge of wire termination techniques
• Experience of testing requirements and techniques for product qualification
• General knowledge of industry specifications such as UL, CSA, IEC, and EIA are desirable
• Good to have working experience of FEA simulation (Ansys or similar), prototyping for product verification, Knowledge of Voice of Customer, Design to Value, Design for Six Sigma.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, ability to communicate Globally at all levels internally and externally
• Must be self-motivated, organized, detail oriented and able to manage projects with minimal supervision. This includes multiple projects and multi task situations, with the ability to prioritize, set and achieve goals

Education, Technical Qualification:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 9-12 years of professional experience.
• Min 4+ years work experience in Connector Industry.

Generally requires Bachelors degree in appropriate field with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible professional level experience; Masters degree or higher or local equivalent may be preferred at this level
