JOB OVERVIEW
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Lead the strategy and execution of database migrations to the public cloud (GCP preferred). Develop and own migration processes, documentation, and tooling, ensuring alignment with overall IT strategy and business objectives. This includes proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks and challenges.
  • Provide expert administration and management of mission‑critical, high‑volume database platforms in a 24/7 environment. Implement and maintain robust monitoring and alerting systems, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.
  • Champion automation throughout the database lifecycle. Develop and implement automated solutions for database provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance, leveraging tools such as Ansible, Terraform, and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell).
  • Lead the design and implementation of highly available and scalable database solutions in the cloud. Ensure compliance with security and governance standards, utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for automated provisioning and management.
  • Administer and troubleshoot SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and NoSQL databases (MongoDB). Implement best practices and resolve complex performance issues through automated scripting and tooling. Proactively identify and implement performance optimizations.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for database systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with application stakeholders to define database requirements and provide technical guidance on design and optimization. Propose and implement automation solutions to improve development workflows and reduce manual effort.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of database security policies and procedures. Leverage automation for security auditing and vulnerability management.
  • Actively participate in Agile development processes. Contribute to sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, and retrospectives, focusing on automation opportunities to improve team efficiency.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members. Foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning, particularly in the areas of automation and DevOps.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in database administration and cloud computing. Proactively identify and evaluate new technologies and tools to improve database performance, reliability, and security. Recommend and implement innovative solutions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • 9+ years of hands‑on experience with designing, refactoring, or migrating databases in cloud infrastructures (Azure, AWS, GCP preferred). Demonstrated experience leading and implementing database migration strategies.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Ansible, GitHub, Artifactory) and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell) in a cloud environment. Proven ability to design and implement automated workflows.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform. Proven ability to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Experience with cloud adoption concepts, processes, and tools, including security, governance, and integration.
  • Experience with SQL Server AlwaysOn and Windows clustering. Experience automating the management of high‑availability clusters is preferred.
  • Experience with Agile techniques and methods.
  • Familiarity with user expectations for cloud databases (designing user‑centric engineering services, e.g., self‑service provisioning workflows).
  • Working knowledge of DevOps principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Good understanding and hands‑on experience with Linux OS and Windows Server (2012+).
  • Experience with high availability, disaster recovery, backup strategies, and server tuning.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced team environment.
