Job summary

Tata Communications in Chennai is seeking a Structural Engineer with 3 to 6 years of experience in structural design and analysis of steel telecom structures such as lattice towers, monopoles and guy masts.

You will use STAAD Pro, MS Tower, RSTAB/RFEM and AutoCAD to deliver designs, prepare documentation, BOM and technical reports in line with Indian and international standards. Proficiency in English (German preferred) is desirable.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or BE Structural Engineering.
• Proficiency in English and German (preferable).
• Experience in structural design and analysis of steel lattice towers, monopoles and guy masts.
• Knowledge of Eurocodes and international standards for telecom structures.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural design and assessment of telecom structures and preparation of relevant documentation using Indian and international standards.
• Steel lattice towers, monopoles, rooftops poles and antenna mounts.
• Quality check for assessments with respect to client requirements.
• Provide modification/strengthening solutions for member failures.
• Analysis of existing modifications for monopoles and towers.
• Develop excel tools for manual calculations to be performed outside software.
• Engineering review of construction drawings and prepare BOM and technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural design and/or assessment of telecommunication structures and preparation of relevant documentation using Indian and international standards.
• Steel lattice towers
• Steel and concrete monopoles
• Rooftops poles and Antenna mounts
• Quality check for the assessments with respect to the client requirements.
• Provide modification/strengthening solutions in case of member failure.
• Analysis of existing modifications for monopoles such as flat plates, bridge stiffeners, transition stiffeners and extensions.
• Study and analyze all inputs from client to prepare & include Structure information, Antenna details, Shelter information, Mount/strengthening structural modelling, connection drawing, Lease area details and Technologies.
• Analysis of existing modifications for self-supporting towers such as half pipe attached to the leg members, member replacements and bracing changes.
• Analysis of anchor bolts and baseplates for telecommunication structures.
• Foundation design and analysis of various kinds of foundations such as isolated footing, mat footing, pile foundation etc.
• Analysis of foundation modifications such as foundation jacketing and composite foundations.
• Develop the excel tools for different types of manual calculations to be performed outside software being used.
• Engineering review of construction drawings prepared by the CAD technicians.
• Prepare BOM (Bill of Materials) and technical documentation for production.
• Conduct design reviews and implement feedback for continuous improvement.

Knowledge required

• Good knowledge and working experience in Eurocodes / Australian codes and standards such as:
• AS3995-1994
• ANSI/TIA-222-G and ANSI/TIA-222-H
• IBC2015
• BS EN 1993-1-1
• IS 875- Part III- 2015
• IS 800 – 2007
• Good knowledge & understanding of Telecom network mainly on Cell sites structures.
• Strong Knowledge in Steel members, Mounting standards, Member connections, Bolts, Brackets etc.
• Good to have knowledge in technological upgradation like 4G and 5G networks.
• Hands on experience and exposure to Nokia, Huawei and Ericsson wireless platforms.
