Job summary

Bloom Energy, based in San Jose, California, seeks a Senior Commodity Manager to lead sourcing strategies for critical components and drive value across the supply base. You will shape short, mid, and long-term plans, manage supplier performance, and work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams.

The role requires 12+ years in supply chain within manufacturing, strong negotiation and project management skills, and a solid technical background.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/MBA in Engineering/Technology or Supply Chain.
• 12+ years of experience in supply chain, ideally in a manufacturing company.
• 5+ years of management experience.
• Technical background with knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and understand production drawings.
• Strong verbal, written communication skills in English.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and purchasing/planning functions.
• Must be proficient in PowerPoint and Excel (formulas and macros).
• Ability to work closely with vendors under a rapid change environment.
• Contract negotiation and project management.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and lead the short, mid and long term sourcing strategies for assigned commodities.
• Drive cost reduction through negotiation, cost reduction projects, benchmarking, cost modeling, should-be costing, and make vs buy.
• Execute the Business Continuity Plan by identifying and mitigating risks to supply.
• Support release of prototype or qualification material orders and ensure timely delivery.
• Manage supplier performance related to quality, continuous process improvement, qualification, and reduction in cost of poor quality.
• Ensure availability of materials to support production and order fulfillment.
• Manage supplier audits, scorecards, and QBR.
• Work with contract manufacturers on tech transfer and DFM activities; ensure smooth ECN/NP I transitions.
• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration across procurement, engineering, quality, manufacturing, finance, marketing, sales, product management.
• Travel 10–25% (domestic or international) depending on commodity or supplier responsibility.

Role and Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and lead the short, Mid and Long term sourcing strategies for assigned commodities, to achieve multi sourcing, manage market risks and geo-political impacts. Drive cost reduction through negotiation, cost reduction projects, benchmarking, cost modeling, should-be costing, and make vs buy. Execution of Business Continuity Plan by identifying and mitigating risks to supply. Support release of prototype or qualification material orders and ensure timely delivery. Manage supplier performance related to quality, continuous process improvement, qualification, and reduction in cost of poor quality. Ensure availability of materials to support production and order fulfillment. Manage or conduct supplier audits, scorecards, and QBR. Work closely with contract manufacturers to support technology transfer and DFM activities. Ensure seamless transition of changes including technology, ECN, NPI and minimize related E&O. Facilitate problem solving groups to meet the current and future needs of the company. Develop strong cross-functional relationships to drive success. Teams may include colleagues from procurement, engineering, quality, manufacturing, finance, marketing, sales, product management, and other departments as needed. Role requires 10-25% travel (domestic or international depending on commodity or supplier responsibility).

Skills and Experience

BS/MS/MBA in Engineering/Technology or Supply Chain; experience in mechanical engineering a plus. 12+ years of experience in supply chain, ideally in a manufacturing company. 5+ year management experience. Technical background with knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes. Ability to read and understand production drawings. Strong verbal, written communication skills in English required. Fluency in other languages is beneficial but not required. Familiarity with ERP systems and purchasing/planning functions desired. Must be proficient in PowerPoint and Excel (formulas and macros). Ability to work closely with vendors under a rapid change environment. Contract negotiation and project management. Strong project management, with ability to prioritize and deliver multiple under tight deadlines and to complete assignments. High attention to detail and accuracy character traits needed. High energy and self -motivated person required. Team player who can foster a collaborative work ethic and keep the team on task
