BPMLinks seeks a Senior Cloud Database Engineer to own cloud-native database platforms with a focus on AWS, scalability, and reliability. The role is hands-on and contributes to automation, platform standards, and DevOps practices across our data infrastructure.

The ideal candidate has senior experience in database administration, cloud operations, and DevOps, with strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, Oracle, DocumentDB, and modern data tooling.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.
  • Proven 8+ years of experience in database administration, cloud administration and DevOps.
  • AWS or database certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, and DocumentDB optimizations.
  • Strong understanding of relational DBs, data warehousing, and ETL tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of data infrastructure (processing, storage, accessibility).
  • Oversee AWS infrastructure and services (RDS Oracle, Aurora PostgreSQL, DocumentDB, Lambda, Kafka, DMS, EC2).
  • Drive IaC using AWS CloudFormation; automate deployment, scaling, and management of resources.
  • Ensure backups for AWS services (RDS, EBS snapshots) meet BC requirements.
  • Monitor and tune performance of cloud services to meet workload needs.
  • Maintain documentation of AWS environment and provide status reports on performance and incidents.
  • Collaborate on migrations from on-prem to AWS and Snowflake.
  • Participate in Change Management and RCA meetings as directed.
  • Provide off-hours support as needed.
  • Foster data-driven decision-making and KPI development across the org.

Job description

As a Sr, Cloud Database Engineer, is you will take end-to-end ownership of cloud-native database platforms, with a primary focus on AWS. This is a hands‑on senior individual contributor role focused on designing for scale and reliability, driving automation, and setting the platform standards that engineering teams across the firm depend on.

This role suits an engineer who has operated at a senior level before – someone who identifies what needs to be built, makes sound technical decisions, and delivers without requiring step‑by‑step direction.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Key responsibilities Principal Database Platform Engineer involve managing and maintaining the day‑to‑day operations of an organization’s data infrastructure. This includes data processing, storage, and accessibility.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Management: Oversee the design, deployment, and management of AWS infrastructure and services (RDS Oracle, Aurora Postgresql, DocumentDB, Lambda, Kafka, DMS, EC2 etc.. Ensure the availability, reliability, and scalability of cloud environments. Manage and monitor AWS resources, ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency. Perform capacity planning and implement autoscaling policies to handle traffic fluctuations.
  • Automation and DevOps: Drive the adoption of infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like AWS CloudFormation. Automate deployment, scaling, and management of cloud resources to streamline operations and reduce manual intervention. Integrate CI/CD pipelines for Landing Zone Accelerator software releases.
  • Backup: Ensure backups are configured for critical AWS services (e.g., RDS, EBS snapshots) and meet business continuity requirements.
  • Performance Tuning and Optimization: Continuously monitor and tune the performance of cloud services to meet application and workload requirements. Ensure a stable performance environment for mission‑critical enterprise systems
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of the AWS environment, including architecture diagrams and operating procedures. Provide regular status reports on system performance, incidents, and ongoing operational tasks to management.
  • Application Migrations: Collaborate with Infrastructure, Network, Integration, and Security teams to migrate clinical and business applications from on‑premises data center to AWS and Snowflake
  • Cloud Operations Center of Excellence: Build a training curriculum and corresponding certification matrix, based on job level.
  • Participates in Change Management and Root Cause Analysis meetings as directed.
  • May be called to work off hours, weekends, and holidays to provide technical support to the Institution.
  • Foster a culture of data‑driven decision‑making, collaboration, and accountability across the organization.
  • Develop key performance indicators for data operations, implementations, and the health of our cloud environments.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • Proven track record with 8 years’ experience in database administration, cloud administration, and devops.
  • AWS or any Database certifications are considered a plus.
  • Experience managing technology operations in a cloud environment is a strong plus (particularly AWS and Snowflake).
  • Strong understanding of database fundamentals and operations.
  • Strong technical expertise in data management technologies, relational DB’s, data warehousing solutions, ETL tools (Fivetran, HVR) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Snowflake and Kafka).
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, Oracle, and DocumentDB database optimizations.
  • Experience automating performance enhancing jobs and data archiving.
  • Generate reports and analyze the system for query slowness.
  • Develop scripts for performance improvement and data fixes.
  • Set up design and database monitoring reports and alerts.
  • Experience participating in technical discussions with development and system DBA teams for deployments and code reviews.
  • Experience with database security concepts and technologies, including role‑based access controls, encryption, auditing, and threat/vulnerability management (TVM).
  • Knowledge Required: Excellent written and verbal communications skills; adaptability and flexibility to a changing environment; and comfortable working in a dynamic, high volume, fast‑paced environment. Ability to understand and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and laws governing our industry/business and products.
