Job summary

Amgen in Hyderabad seeks a Sr Associate - Accounting (Technical & Digital Enablement) to drive automation within Global Accounting Automation. The role focuses on R2R processes, close efficiency, and applying US GAAP with SOX controls.

You will partner with IT and automation teams to deliver scalable solutions using UiPath, Power BI, SAP, and more. The position emphasizes end-to-end delivery, strong technical fundamentals, and cross-functional collaboration with RTR, FP&A, P2P, Tax, and Treasury

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting with 5+ years of relevant experience OR
• Associate’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience OR
• High school diploma with 8+ years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

• Identify and support automation opportunities across accounting processes to reduce manual effort, improve cycle times, and strengthen controls.
• Build and support automation initiatives using Advanced Excel + VBA/Macros and other tools.
• Partner with Technology, Automation CoE, and developers to design and deliver scalable solutions.
• Support end-to-end delivery of automation initiatives from intake to deployment and stabilization.
• Assist with requirements gathering, testing coordination, and go-live readiness.
• Track timelines, risks, dependencies, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
• Support accurate month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journals and reconciliations.
• Support SOX/internal control execution and audit readiness.
• Develop and maintain automated reports and dashboards for close health, reconciliation status, and controls evidence.

Amgen is seeking a Sr Associate - Accounting (Technical & Digital Enablement) within Global Accounting Automation. This role is suited for a finance professional who understands Record-to-Report (R2R) accounting processes and controls, and who can support automation initiatives and enterprise digital projects in partnership with IT and automation teams.

The role supports accounting close efficiency, controllership, and digital enablement through structured project delivery and strong technical fundamentals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Automation & Digital Enablement

• Identify and support automation opportunities across accounting processes to reduce manual effort, improve cycle times, and strengthen controls.
• Build and support automation initiatives using:
  • Advanced Excel + VBA/ Macros (Must-Have): macro automation, reusable templates, validations/controls, error handling, and audit-friendly outputs.
• Partner with Technology, Automation CoE, and developers to design and deliver scalable solutions using tools such as UiPath, Power Automate, Power BI, Alteryx, Smartsheet, DocuSign, and similar platforms.
• Apply controls-by-design principles including access management, approvals, audit trails, change control, documentation, and production support models.

2) Project Delivery & Coordination

• Support end-to-end delivery of automation initiatives (intake → requirements → build → testing → deployment → stabilization).
• Assist with requirements gathering, documentation (BRDs, user stories, acceptance criteria), testing coordination, and go-live readiness.
• Track timelines, risks, dependencies, and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.

3) Accounting Close, Controls & Compliance

• Support accurate and timely month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis.
• Apply knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Support SOX/internal control execution, documentation, and audit readiness.
• Assist with internal, external, and tax audit requests within defined timelines.

4) Reporting & Insights

• Support development and maintenance of automated reports and dashboards for:
  • Close health and cycle time
  • Reconciliation status and exceptions
  • Controls compliance and evidence completeness
• Perform data validation, reconciliations, and variance analysis to ensure audit-ready outputs.

5) Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Finance teams (RTR, FP&A, P2P, Tax, Treasury) and Technology partners.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors where applicable and ensure service quality and documentation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree + 5 years of relevant experience OR
• Associate’s degree + 6 years of relevant experience OR
• High school diploma/GED + 8 years of relevant experience

REQUIRED SKILLS (MUST-HAVE)

Technical

• Advanced Excel + VBA/ Macros (Must-Have): automation, reusable templates, validations/controls, robust error handling.
• Experience working with ERP systems (preferably SAP) and accounting data used in close processes.

Finance / Controllership

• Hands-on experience with accounting close, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Understanding of US GAAP and SOX/internal control requirements.

Delivery / Collaboration

• Ability to support work end-to-end from requirements through go-live and stabilization.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

GOOD-TO-HAVE SKILLS

• Power BI and/or Tableau: dashboard development, reporting, data modeling (Power Query/DAX preferred)
• RPA / automation tools (UiPath, Automation Anywhere); analytics tools such as Alteryx.
• Power Automate / Power Apps.
• Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet; process mapping tools (Visio).
