Job summary

VikingCloud is seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Lead in Vadodara to architect a cloud-native Marketplace Platform and mentor a small team while delivering a scalable commerce engine.

You will own microservices, REST APIs, Stripe integration, and billing workflows, collaborating with Product, Engineering, and DevOps to ship secure, observable solutions with strong reliability on-site in Gujarat.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years in leadership.
• Expert-level Java (17+) and Spring Boot development.
• Experience building microservices and REST APIs.
• Hands-on Stripe integration and subscription billing.
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure) and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, design, and development of a cloud-native Marketplace Platform.
• Build scalable Java/Spring Boot microservices for payments, subscriptions, entitlements, and activation.
• Design and implement recurring billing workflows (monthly, yearly, usage-based).
• Own end-to-end Stripe integration including Checkout, Billing, Subscriptions, Invoicing, Webhooks.
• Develop secure REST APIs and enterprise licensing models.
• Mentor 2-4 engineers; conduct architecture and code reviews.
• Contribute to CI/CD, Kubernetes deployments, and GitOps practices.

About the Role

We're building a next-generation Marketplace Platform that enables customers to purchase, subscribe, and manage products through a modern self-service experience while supporting enterprise customers with advanced licensing, provisioning, and back-office capabilities.

We're looking for a hands-on Software Engineering Lead who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while mentoring a small engineering team. This is not a people-management-only role - you'll be the primary technical leader, architect, and a significant individual contributor responsible for designing, building, and delivering a scalable commerce platform.

What You'll Do

• Lead the architecture, design, and development of a cloud-native Marketplace Platform.
• Build scalable Java/Spring Boot microservices powering payments, subscriptions, entitlements, and product activation.
• Design and implement recurring billing capabilities, including monthly, annual, and usage-based subscriptions, upgrades, downgrades, prorations, renewals, cancellations, and dunning workflows.
• Own the end-to-end Stripe integration, including Checkout, Billing, Subscriptions, Invoicing, Webhooks, payment recovery, refunds, and idempotent event processing.
• Build secure, scalable REST APIs and integrate seamlessly with existing platform services.
• Design enterprise-grade entitlement and licensing models supporting both self-service and enterprise customers.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and DevOps teams to deliver production-ready solutions.
• Lead a team of 2-4 engineers through technical mentoring, architecture reviews, code reviews, and engineering best practices.
• Ensure high standards for testing, performance, security, observability, and production reliability.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes deployments, GitOps practices, and cloud infrastructure.

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with 4+ years in a technical leadership or Lead Engineer role.
• Expert-level Java (17+) and Spring Boot development.
• Strong experience designing and building Microservices and REST APIs.
• Proven experience implementing complex subscription billing and payment platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Stripe (Checkout, Billing, Subscriptions, Webhooks, Invoicing).
• Strong database design experience using MySQL/PostgreSQL with JPA/Hibernate and schema migrations.
• Experience with GCP or AWS orAzure, Kubernetes, Docker, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD (or similar GitOps tools), and Gradle/Maven.
• Strong understanding of automated testing using JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience designing secure, scalable, highly available distributed systems.
• Excellent engineering judgment with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:

• Stripe Tax, Avalara, TaxJar, Vertex, or other tax compliance platforms
• Redis, Kafka, Spring Cloud, OpenFeign, Resilience4j
• Terraform or Infrastructure as Code
• Salesforce, CPQ, or enterprise provisioning integrations
• PCI DSS, SOC2, GDPR/CCPA compliance
• Enterprise SaaS platforms, seat-based licensing, or usage-based billing
• AI-assisted software development tools and modern engineering workflows
