About the team

Join Sam’s Club’s Loyalty and Reward Engineering team, where we design and build scalable solutions that enhance member experiences and drive business operations across both digital and physical channels. Our team operates in a collaborative, agile environment with a strong focus on innovation, reliability, and continuous improvement. We work with large‑scale, distributed systems and partner closely with product, analytics, and engineering teams to deliver impactful products for our members.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable software solutions, data pipelines and ETL processes using modern data engineering tools (e.g. Spark, Airflow, BigQuery, Databricks).
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high‑quality features from concept to production.
  • Develop and optimize data models for analytics and reporting, ensuring data quality, reliability, and governance.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Implement best practices for data security, privacy, and compliance.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, improve data workflows and system performance and contribute to code reviews and technical discussions.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
  • 3‑6 years of experience in data engineering or software engineering with a focus on data systems.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Java, Python, JavaScript, C#).
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and distributed data processing frameworks (e.g. Databricks, Spark, Hadoop).
  • Experience with cloud data platforms (GCP, Azure, or AWS) and orchestration tools.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, warehousing, and governance principles.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of AI concepts and practical applications (e.g. familiarity with machine learning fundamentals, AI‑driven APIs, or integrating AI features into applications).
Preferred Qualifications (Real‑time & DevOps)
  • Experience with real‑time data processing and streaming technologies (Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, DevOps, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with microservices, distributed systems, or large‑scale web applications.
  • Prior experience in retail or e‑commerce environments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related area.
