Software Engineer II on Akamai's Platform Engineering & AI Enablement team in Bengaluru responsible for building and maintaining backend services and APIs for enterprise agentic AI initiatives, including MCP servers, authentication/authorization frameworks, API governance, and orchestration platforms using Python and cloud containerization.

A Software Engineer II on the Platform Engineering & AI Enablement team responsible for designing, building, and maintaining backend services and APIs that support enterprise agentic AI initiatives. The role focuses on developing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, AuthN/AuthZ frameworks, API governance, and orchestration platforms to ensure secure, observable, and governable AI agents at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs (REST, GraphQL) supporting enterprise agentic AI.
• Develop and enhance MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers and integrate internal/external tools and data sources into the agent ecosystem.
• Implement authentication and authorization frameworks (OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, token exchange, mTLS) to secure MCP servers, agents, and LLM traffic.
• Develop Python-based services and integrate with agentic or LLM orchestration frameworks as project needs evolve.
• Govern enterprise API gateway platforms, manage MCP servers and agent/LLM usage, and implement orchestration workflows.
• Collaborate with architects, security, and platform teams to translate AI governance requirements into functional infrastructure.

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of backend software engineering experience and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• Hands‑on experience with Python for backend services and familiarity with AI/agent frameworks.
• Experience designing and building APIs, including REST and GraphQL integration.
• Expertise with AuthN/AuthZ concepts and implementations such as OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, token exchange, and mTLS.
• Experience with API gateways or integration platforms and an understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems principles.
• Exposure to MCP, event streaming platforms (Kafka, Spark, Flink), Redis, identity management, and cloud deployments using Docker/Kubernetes.
• Strong self‑motivation, responsibility, and communication skills.
