Job description

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer II to design, develop, configure, test, and maintain software solutions within an Agile development environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering expertise, hands-on experience with Java or .NET, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and the Duck Creek product suite. The role also involves troubleshooting complex issues, contributing to solution architecture, mentoring junior engineers, and responsibly leveraging AI-assisted development tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and configure solutions for moderately complex Agile user stories with minimal supervision.
  • Debug software defects, identify root causes, and implement reliable fixes while minimizing unintended impacts.
  • Develop and maintain automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests using modern testing frameworks.
  • Design and implement Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using tools such as Terraform.
  • Support and enhance CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments, particularly within Microsoft Azure.
  • Contribute to conceptual architecture and technical design for small-scale software solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and architects.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards, security practices, code quality, and maintainability.
  • Perform source code management activities and contribute to repository and branching strategy decisions.
  • Mentor junior software engineers and support their technical development.
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code responsibly, validating generated code for accuracy, security, and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to estimate, plan, and deliver software development activities.
  • Diagnose CI/CD pipeline failures, deployment issues, and application defects.
  • Apply Agile and Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) best practices throughout development.
  • Demonstrate technical solutions, share knowledge, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent foreign qualification.
  • At least 8+ years of software development experience; the job posting also lists 10+ years of total work experience, so the applicable experience requirement should be confirmed before publishing.
Technical Skills:
Software Development
  • Strong expertise in object-oriented design and programming.
  • Proficiency in Java or .NET development.
  • Strong understanding of relational database design and relational OLTP queries.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, preferably Microsoft Azure.

  • Understanding of containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Expertise in CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or equivalent platforms.
  • Ability to troubleshoot pipeline and deployment failures.

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Playwright, Pester, or equivalent tools.
  • Ability to develop unit, integration, and end-to-end automated tests.
  • Strong understanding of code quality, debugging, and software reliability practices.
Duck Creek Product Expertise
  • Understanding of the Duck Creek product suite and how its applications work together.
  • Strong knowledge of the Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance domain.
AI-Assisted Development
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code in daily development.
  • Ability to independently assess, validate, and correct AI-generated code.
  • Understanding of security, reliability, and maintainability considerations when using AI tools.
  • Ability to guide junior engineers on responsible AI-assisted development practices.
Core Competencies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Effective time management and deadline ownership.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with senior engineers and architects.
