Job summary

NetApp, Inc. is seeking a senior QEG Engineer (Software Engineer 3) to lead end-to-end development, validation, and support for cutting-edge on-prem technologies.

You will shape architectural decisions, drive technical direction across firmware, software, and manufacturing, and mentor junior engineers to elevate the team. Qualifications

• Must have deep experience across software lifecycle, test strategy design and quality ownership.
• Experience with AI/ML architectures, prompt engineering, and applying these to system diagnostics or tooling.
• Strong understanding of network protocols and ability to debug at protocol level (TCP/IP, NFS, SMB, iSCSI, FC).
• Expertise in OS internals including Linux/Unix, BIOS/UEFI, and boot processes.
• Strong background in storage hardware interfaces, NVMe, PCIe, RAID, SSDs.

Job Summary

As a QEG Engineer (Software Engineer 3), you will serve as a senior technical contributor and de facto technical leader for the end-to-end development, validation, and support of cutting-edge on-prem technologies. Beyond hands-on execution, you will drive architectural decisions, set technical direction across firmware/software/manufacturing boundaries, and mentor junior engineers. This role requires deep, demonstrated expertise in low-level systems, firmware, and software, along with the judgment to make design trade-offs independently and the influence to align cross-functional teams around them.

Job Requirements

• Deep expertise in software development lifecycle, test strategy design, and quality ownership able to define test plans and validation frameworks, not just execute them
• Strong understanding of AI/ML and GenAI architectures, prompt engineering, and applying these to system diagnostics, automation, or tooling
• Advanced understanding of networking concepts and protocols, with ability to debug and optimize at the protocol level

• Track record of mentoring engineers, conducting design/code reviews, and raising the technical bar across the team
• Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skillsable to represent technical decisions to stakeholders and influence direction across software, firmware, and manufacturing teams
• Experience contributing to technical roadmap, architecture reviews, or strategic planning for the product/platform
