Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is seeking a Senior Lead Engineer for Developer Experience and Build Engineering in Hyderabad. You will own Gradle-based build systems, drive third‑party upgrades, and mentor engineers across the organization on C/C++ development and build practices.

You will influence architecture, tooling, and integration strategies, collaborating with cross‑functional teams to boost productivity, reliability, and efficiency in the software delivery pipeline.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER - Developer & Build Experience (Gradle, C/C++)

THE ROLE:

AMD is looking for a Senior Lead Engineer to strengthen our Developer Experience and Build Engineering function. In this role, you will own and evolve our Gradle-based build infrastructure, lead the adoption of third-party upgrades, and mentor engineers across the organization. You will be a key technical leader driving the productivity, reliability, and maintainability of our software delivery pipeline for large-scale C/C++ codebases. You will be a member of a core team of incredibly talented industry specialists and will work with the very latest hardware and software technology.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate should be passionate about software engineering and possess leadership skills to drive sophisticated issues to resolution. Able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across AMD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with AMD’s architecture specialists to improve future products and Apply a data minded approach to target optimization efforts.
• Build & Developer Experience: Design, maintain, and continuously improve our Gradle build systems to deliver fast, reliable, and scalable builds that maximize developer productivity across C/C++ projects
• Lead the evaluation, planning, and execution of third-party library, framework, and toolchain upgrades—ensuring compatibility, stability, and timely remediation of security vulnerabilities.
• Mentorship: Mentor and coach engineers, sharing best practices in C/C++ development, build engineering, and dependency management. Elevate the technical skills of the broader team.
• Technical Leadership: Partner with cross-functional teams to define standards, resolve complex build and integration issues, and drive engineering excellence.
• Strong programming experience with C/C++ including a deep understanding of memory management, performance optimization, and systems-level development in large-scale codebases.
• Automation & Tooling: Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and reduce friction in the development lifecycle.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Gradle (build authoring, custom plugins, dependency management, build performance tuning), including native/C++ build integration.
• Proven track record of managing third-party dependency and toolchain upgrades in large-scale codebases, including handling breaking changes and security patches.
• Solid understanding of compilers, linkers, and build toolchains (e.g., GCC, Clang).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Strong object-oriented programming background, C/C++ preferred with 12+yrs of professional handson coding experience
• Ability to write high quality code with a keen attention to detail
• Experience with modern concurrent programming and threading APIs
• Experience with Windows, Linux and/or Android operating system development
• Experience with software development processes and tools such as debuggers, source code control systems (GitHub) and profilers is a plus
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills
• Motivating leader with good interpersonal skills

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
