Job summary

Glean is seeking a Backend/Infrastructure Engineer in Bengaluru to build scalable, secure platform primitives for enterprise agents. You will own problems end-to-end—design, production, and operations—across publishing, governance, and observability.

You will work with Go, Python, Java, or C++ in a distributed, security-sensitive environment, collaborating with Product, Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver resilient systems.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in computer science, or related degree.
• 6+ years building production backend, infrastructure, or cloud-native systems.
• Strong coding skills in Go, Python, Java, C++, or a similar language.
• Experience with distributed systems, APIs, storage, asynchronous workflows, or control planes.
• Strong instincts around identity, authorization, tenancy, policy enforcement, auditability, and sensitive data access.
• Able to reason about failure modes, system boundaries, invariants, and operational tradeoffs.
• Customer-focused, proactive, and comfortable owning ambiguous problems and production issues.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure is a plus.
• Experience with AI agents, workflow systems, developer platforms, or enterprise administration is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own impactful backend systems from design through production operation.
• Write design documents and balance security, reliability, performance, UX, and cost.
• Build well-tested services and platform components with strong correctness.
• Tackle distributed-systems challenges like consistency, idempotency, and migrations.
• Collaborate with Product, Security, Infrastructure, and customer teams to scale capabilities.

About the Role:

Glean is looking for Backend/Infrastructure engineers to build the platform that makes enterprise agents safe, discoverable, reliable, and governable at scale. You will work on agent publishing, sharing, moderation, policy enforcement, permissions, versioning, observability, and spend management. This is a distributed-systems and security-sensitive problem spanning platform infrastructure, product systems, and enterprise administration.

You will own problems from definition and architecture through production launch and operation, turning ambiguous requirements into durable platform primitives.

You will:

As a Software Engineer at Glean, Own impactful systems from design through reliable production operation.

• Write clear design documents and make sound tradeoffs across security, reliability, performance, user experience, and cost.
• Build well-tested backend services and platform components with strong correctness and operational guarantees.
• Solve distributed-systems problems involving consistency, idempotency, retries, ordering, migrations, and safe rollout.
• Partner with Product, Security, Infrastructure, and customer-facing teams to turn enterprise needs into scalable capabilities.
• Make governance decisions auditable: who changed what, which policy applied, why access was allowed or denied, and what happened during a run.
• Improve monitoring, alerting, debugging, incident response, and operational maturity.
• Mentor engineers and help shape the roadmap around the highest-leverage platform problems.

About you:
