Job summary

Smiths Group is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain embedded solutions using C, C++, Python, and Linux. The role supports Bare Metal and Linux environments and follows secure coding practices.

The candidate will work in an Agile Scrum environment, collaborate across cross-functional teams, and participate in planning, estimation, and sprint ceremonies. Office presence is required 4 days a week in India, Karnataka.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 2–4 years of professional software development experience including embedded software.
• Experience with C, C++, Python and Linux.

Job Purpose

To design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software solutions using C, C++, Python, and Linux, ensuring compliance with secure coding practices and quality standards. The role supports Bare Metal and Linux environments, contributes to Agile development processes, and collaborates across cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure applications.

As per company policy, this role requires presence in the office 4 days per week.

Duties

• Support the design, development, testing, debugging, and maintenance of embedded software applications.
• Follow established software development processes, coding standards, and quality practices.
• Apply object-oriented software development principles in feature implementation and maintenance activities.
• Contribute to test-driven software development and software verification activities.
• Develop and maintain software for Bare Metal and Linux-based embedded target environment
• Utilize C, C++, Python, and Linux tools to implement and support software solutions.
• Support cybersecurity compliance activities, including the use of security scan tools and remediation of identified issues.
• Participate in project planning, effort estimation, and task execution under the guidance of senior team members.
• Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and support project deliverables.
• Document software designs, test results, and implementation details in accordance with project requirements.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 2–4 years of professional software development experience with hands‑on coding across multiple technology stacks, including embedded software.

Technical Expertise

• Experience in following formal Software development processes
• Experience of object-oriented software development
• Experience of test-driven software development
• Experience of developing Bare Metal or Linux embedded target environments
• Experience of kernel configuration and driver development
• Solid C, C++, Python and Linux experience
• Understanding of cybersecurity issues and security scan tools
• UI development experience and proficiency in Angular & Electron are considered added advantages.
