Job summary

Amazon Lab126 is looking for a Software Development Engineer to design and build core OS, platform, and embedded software across Amazon devices. You will work with product management to clarify requirements and deliver high‑quality code from concept to launch.

You will mentor teammates, tackle challenging engineering problems in resource‑constrained environments, and contribute to the overall architecture and reliability of device software across multiple product families.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience of new and existing systems.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

The Device OS team is central to creating these innovative devices, providing the core OS, platform, features, and components. We are inventing the future of consumer electronics and are looking for a Software Development Engineer to help bring that vision to life — solving real-world challenges that transform our customers' experiences. The team builds scalable solutions that enable our partners to quickly and cost-effectively develop and launch new device experiences.

Key job responsibilities

• Engage in the design and development of core OS, platform, and embedded software components, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
• Partner closely with Product Management to detail and disambiguate requirements.
• Design, implement, and ship high-quality embedded software for a wide range of Amazon Devices, from concept through launch.
• Own the quality of your own work — both code and design — and help junior team members meet or exceed the quality bar.
• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across the stack in resource‑constrained environments.

A day in the life

In our team, you will get to build products and features from the ground up. You will define and build features and tools used by thousands of developers for building for millions of customers. We work across multiple internal teams as well as product to define what we are building and make it a reality. SDEs on this team are actively writing code, as well as working on designs and mentoring others. As the Device OS org we get to work horizontally across many exciting new device types.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Familiarity with agentic software development using industry‑standard tools (e.g., Kiro, Claude, Cursor) to accomplish the assignments
