Job summary

Tesco Bengaluru is seeking an Android Engineer at the SDE 3 level to design, develop, and maintain high-quality Android applications with Kotlin and Java. You will work with product, design, and backend teams to build scalable, secure mobile solutions and mentor junior engineers in a senior IC role.

You will apply MVVM/Clean Architecture, optimize performance, and stay current with Android SDKs and Jetpack Compose, while contributing to technical leadership across teams in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in Android development (Kotlin/Java).
• Deep understanding of Android architecture (MVVM, Clean Architecture), performance optimization, and mobile user experience.
• Experience building scalable, high-performance, and secure Android applications.
• Java / Spring Boot
• Web technologies (React or similar frameworks)
• Ability to collaborate effectively with backend teams to define service contracts, optimize data exchange, and ensure efficient end-to-end system performance
• Familiarity with microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and distributed system interactions

About the role

As an Android Engineer at SDE 3 level, you will design, develop, and maintain high-quality Android applications that deliver exceptional user experiences. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to build scalable, performant, and secure mobile solutions. As a Software Development Engineer 3 you are in a senior Individual Contributor engineering role at Tesco. Your proficiency with foundational computer science and software engineering concepts is taken as a given, and you will have proven significant technical depth and breadth. At this level you will be playing an active role in technical leadership, with proven impact across teams and the wider directorate. You take ownership and accountability of the development of the products in your domain. You participate in activities that build capability across the organisation: coaching and mentoring of existing colleagues, and interviewing/hiring of new colleagues. Once you have reached the SDE3 level, progression will vary significantly, and is likely to include more lateral opportunities than vertical promotion. This is also the level of core technical knowledge you must reach before considering a sideways move to the management track.

You will need

Primary Skill:
