About the Role

Were looking for an SDE 2 who can take a direction and find their own path. Youll own meaningful slices of production systems across our product ecosystem, including internal platforms, customer-facing apps, integrations, and AI-powered products were actively building. This isnt a role for someone who waits for fully specified tickets. Its for engineers who think in trade-offs, surface risks early, and care about what their code does at 2 AM on a Saturday.

What We Absolutely Need

These are non-negotiable. Without these, the role wont work, regardless of years of experience or stack familiarity.

• Figures things out independently. Give you a direction, you find the path. You investigate, prototype, ask sharp questions, and move.
• Owns production impact. You understand that every code and design decision compounds into reliability, performance, and maintainability.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving. When blocked or handed ambiguous requirements, you reproduce, isolate, hypothesize, and verify.
• Language-flexible, but deep in at least one. Stacks are tools; fundamentals travel.
• Thinks in trade-offs. You can articulate why one design or implementation choice is better than another given the constraints.
• Proactively raises risks, gaps, and dependencies. You flag the missing requirement or scaling concern before it becomes a fire.
• Builds for the long term. You care more about stability, operational excellence, and maintainability than shipping a quick feature someone else has to clean up.
• Learns fast. New system, unfamiliar domain, foreign codebase, you ramp up quickly and start contributing meaningfully.
• Takes end-to-end ownership. This role isnt just about coding and shipping. You own the feature from design through deployment and adoption, ensuring it actually lands and gets used.

General Expectations

Writes clean, readable, well-tested code. Maintains high standards in code reviews and actively raises overall engineering quality. Communicates clearly and documents decisions so others can build on them.

Tech Stack

Our primary stack is Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL, Node.js, Java, and Python on the backend; React, JavaScript, Liquid, and Dart on the frontend; and PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and ClickHouse for data. We use AI actively and are building AI-powered products as a core part of our roadmap.

Good to Have

• Production experience with Ruby on Rails/React/Node.js
• Exposure to building or integrating AI/LLM-based features
• Familiarity with multi-database environments (SQL + NoSQL + analytical stores)

Why This Role

Youll work on systems that directly run a fast-growing interior design business, not throwaway projects. The scope is broad, the ownership is real, and the engineering problems are the kind that reward people who think carefully and build things to last.

Its a plus if youve worked on the kinds of systems we run day to day, such as lead sourcing and storage, CRM workflows, project management tools, operations dashboards, procurement, vendor and inventory systems, or other business-line software. Familiarity with this problem space helps you ramp faster and contribute to product decisions earlier.
