Barclays is seeking a Software Developer to evolve our digital landscape from Pune. You will build and maintain cloud-native infrastructure and applications, driving reliability, security, and scalability.

Expect collaboration with product teams, adoption of AI-assisted tooling, and modern CI/CD practices. The role requires strong Python/Java skills, RESTful design, and experience with containers, cloud platforms, and DevOps pipelines.

Qualifications

  • Strong programming experience in Python, Java and OOP concepts.
  • Experience with REST APIs and microservices development.
  • Proficiency in Spring Boot and Python frameworks (Flask/FastAPI).
  • GIT-based source control management and DevOps practices.
  • Hands-on with CI/CD tools (Jenkins/GitHub Actions/GitLab CI/Azure DevOps).
  • Container tech (Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift) and Infra as Code (Terraform/Ansible).
  • Cloud knowledge (AWS/Azure/GCP) and cloud-native development.
  • Awareness of Generative AI concepts and AI-assisted tooling.

Basic/ Essential Qualifications
  • Strong programming experience in:
  • Python
  • Java (Java 11/17 preferred)
  • Object-Oriented Design and Development.
  • REST API and Microservices Development.
  • Spring Boot Framework.
  • Python frameworks such as Flask or FastAPI.
  • Git-based source control management.
  • DevOps & Automation Knowledge
  • CI/CD tools:Jenkins/GitHub Actions / GitLab CI/Azure DevOps
  • Container technologies:Docker/Kubernetes/OpenShift
  • Infrastructure as Code:Terraform/Ansible (desirable)
  • Cloud Knowledge -Exposure to at least one cloud platform:AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform.
  • Understanding of cloud-native application development principles.
  • AI & Emerging Technologies -Basic understanding of: Generative AI concepts.
  • AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Code Assistants).
  • LLM integrations and AI APIs.

Desirable Skillsets/ Good To Have
  • Knowledge of SRE concepts and operational excellence practices.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.).
  • Understanding of security, risk, and control requirements in regulated environments.
  • Experience working in financial services or large enterprise environments.

This role is based out of Pune.

Purpose of the role

To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.

Accountabilities
  • Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.
  • Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages. Use of data to drive down mean time to resolution.
  • Automation: Development and implementation of automated tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention, utilising software scripting/coding disciplines.
  • Security: Implementation of a secure configuration and measures to protect infrastructure against cyber-attacks, vulnerabilities, and other security threats, including protection of hardware, software, and data from unauthorised access.
  • Teamwork: Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, architects, and other engineers to define IT Infrastructure requirements, devise solutions, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives via a data driven approach.
  • Learning: Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
