Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Platform Engineer to advance internal Kubernetes platforms and deployment pipelines. You will build and maintain platform capabilities, automate infrastructure, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams across R&D, manufacturing, and IT. The role emphasizes CI/CD, GitOps, and strong security practices.

You will work with Terraform/Ansible, Kubernetes tools, and Nutanix/Kubernetes platforms to enable scalable, self‑service environments for development teams worldwide.

Qualifications

• 3+ years IT experience with a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
• Strong hands-on Kubernetes administration and platform engineering experience.
• Experience with Nutanix AHV/Prism Central and Nutanix Karbon/NKP.
• Proficiency in Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation.
• Experience with GitLab/GitHub CI/CD, GitOps tools and automated deployment.

Now is your chance to join a talented team of infrastructure software engineers focused on providing software development pipelines and frameworks to our research scientists, medical device manufacturing teams, regulatory, IT, marketing, and sales teams across our company. Our small product teams focus on several platforms and pipelines including Kubernetes and container services and technologies, full-stack observability, application CI/CD DevSecOps deployment pipelines, as well as global source code and binary repository services. This position as Platform Engineer focuses on continuing to innovate, extend, and deploy our internally developed platforms based on opensource standards used for deploying and managing Gitlab and JFrog Artifactory services; these services are currently hosted in both our internal datacenters and in their respective vendor SaaS platforms. Your assignment is to meet the technology and streamlined platform needs for our Medtronic’s business units source code management or binary release management.

Our platform is built and managed using programmatic pipelines developed and managed using a variety of software code and scripting languages, including but limited to, Terraform, Golang, CloudFormation, Jenkins and GitLab CI/CD, Lambda, some Python, and Java scripting. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

Review platform health, Kubernetes cluster status, Nutanix Prism alerts, capacity, node health, storage, and overnight incidents.

Daily operations: Troubleshoot Kubernetes workloads, networking, storage, ingress, DNS, container runtime, and Nutanix infrastructure issues.

Platform administration: Manage cluster provisioning, node scaling, upgrades, patches, certificates, RBAC, namespaces, policies, and platform configurations.

Platform engineering: Build and enhance reusable Kubernetes platform capabilities, including cluster templates, Helm charts, operators, ingress, storage, monitoring, and security integrations.

Automation: Develop Terraform/Ansible automation and CI/CD/GitOps workflows to eliminate manual infrastructure and cluster operations.

Developer enablement: Work with application teams to onboard workloads, resolve platform dependencies, and provide self-service capabilities.

Security & compliance: Implement and validate RBAC, network policies, admission policies, secrets management, image security, and platform compliance controls.

Observability: Monitor platform performance using Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, or enterprise monitoring tools and proactively address capacity or reliability concerns.

Collaboration: Partner with Infrastructure, Network, Security, DevOps, and Application teams on platform architecture and operational improvements.

Continuous improvement: Identify repetitive operational activities and convert them into automated, scalable, and self-service platform capabilities.

Review incidents and platform changes, update documentation, track operational risks, and ensure critical issues have clear ownership and next steps. Be engaged, skilled, and eager to work closely with stakeholders and clients and create positive interactions and relationships to continue to drive the value of the platform higher for their business needs. Be an integral member of technical staff and help develop, test, deploy, and operate our services 24x7x365 globally.

Required Knowledge and Expertise:

3+ years of IT experience with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, MCA, or MSc. Strong hands‑on expertise in Kubernetes administration and platform engineering. Strong experience with Nutanix AHV and Prism Central. Strong experience in Nutanix Karbon / NKP / Nutanix Kubernetes Platform. Experience in Nutanix Flow networking and security. Experience building and managing Kubernetes clusters on Nutanix/NC2 or similar private‑cloud platforms. Strong understanding of Linux, networking, DNS, load balancing, storage, and virtualization. Experience with Docker/containerd, Helm, Ingress, CSI, CNI, and Kubernetes operators. Proficiency in Terraform and Ansible for infrastructure automation. Experience with GitLab/GitHub, CI/CD, GitOps, Argo CD/Flux, and automated deployment. Knowledge of Kubernetes security, RBAC, policy enforcement, vulnerability management, and secrets management. Experience with monitoring, logging, alerting, and platform observability. Strong troubleshooting, automation, documentation, and incident‑management skills. Build, operate, automate, secure, and continuously improve enterprise Nutanix & Kubernetes platforms while enabling development teams with reliable self‑service capabilities.
