Job summary

Surbana Jurong in India seeks an experienced Social Expert to lead social safeguards, stakeholder engagement, and social impact assessments for infrastructure projects.

You will ensure compliance with international standards (IFC, World Bank, ADB, JICA), oversee land acquisition reviews, and drive effective community consultations across project lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in social safeguards and development sector assignments.
• Experience with lender requirements such as IFC, World Bank, ADB, JICA, etc.
• Experience in land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and community consultation processes.
• Experience across sectors like transport, renewable energy, urban infrastructure, or related sectors.
• Strong analytical, communication, and report writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Social Impact Assessments (SIA), Social Due Diligence, and related social safeguard studies.
• Prepare and review Resettlement & Rehabilitation (R&R) Plans, Livelihood Restoration Plans/Frameworks, and social management documents.
• Lead stakeholder consultations, public consultations, focus group discussions, and community engagement activities.
• Ensure compliance with social safeguard requirements of international financial institutions (IFC, World Bank, ADB, JICA).
• Review land acquisition processes and ensure compliance with national and state regulations.
• Undertake labor compliance audits and assess social risks for projects.
• Coordinate with authorities, consultants, contractors, government agencies, and local communities on social safeguard matters.
• Support preparation of reports, presentations, monitoring frameworks, and project documentation.
• Contribute to implementation and monitoring of social safeguards throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in social safeguards, stakeholder engagement, social impact assessments, and compliance with national and international standards.

Key Responsibilities

Desired Profile

• Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in social safeguard and development sector assignments.
• Strong understanding of social safeguard frameworks and lender requirements including IFC, World Bank, ADB, JICA, etc.
• Experience in land acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and community consultation processes.
• Experience across sectors such as transport, renewable energy, industrial areas, manufacturing facilities, urban infrastructure, or related sectors.
• Strong analytical, communication, report writing, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualification

• Postgraduate degree in Social Sciences, Sociology, Social Work, Development Studies, Anthropology, Rural Development, or related discipline.
