Role: Lead Snowflake Data Engineer (dbt & Informatica)
Experience Level: 812+ Years
Employment Type: Full-Time
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Snowflake Data Engineer to spearhead the modernization, development, and scaling of our enterprise cloud data platform. In this role, you will lead a high-performing engineering pod, architecting scalable data pipelines, modernizing legacy Informatica ETL workflows into modern ELT using dbt and Snowflake, and delivering production-ready data marts.
You must thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure delivery environments, demonstrate exceptional stakeholder management, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Pod Leadership & Delivery: Lead a dedicated data engineering pod, drive sprint planning, conduct robust code reviews, and guarantee on-time delivery under tight, production-critical deadlines.
- Architecture & Modernization: Architect and implement end-to-end ELT/ETL pipelines, migrating legacy Informatica mappings and workflows into high-performance SQL and dbt models on Snowflake.
- Data Modeling & Engineering: Design dimensional models (Star/Snowflake schemas), staging layers, and consumption marts using dbt (macros, tests, snapshots, incremental models).
- Automation & Scripting: Build custom ingestion utilities, orchestration hooks, and operational automations using Python and advanced SQL.
- Performance Tuning & FinOps: Optimize complex SQL queries, warehouse sizing, clustering keys, micro-partitioning, and dbt run times while actively managing Snowflake compute and credit consumption.
- Stakeholder Management: Translate complex business requirements into clear technical specifications, communicate proactively across cross-functional teams, and handle critical production escalations smoothly.
Required Skills & Experience
- Snowflake: 4+ years of deep hands-on expertise with Snowflake architecture (virtual warehouses, Snowpipe, Streams, Tasks, Time Travel, zero-copy cloning, clustering, and security controls).
- dbt (Core or Cloud): 2+ years of production experience defining project structures, building reusable macros, implementing incremental models, documentation, and schema/custom data tests.
- Informatica (PowerCenter / IDMC): Strong foundation understanding legacy Informatica mappings, sessions, transformations, and workflows to accurately translate business logic into modern cloud ELT.
- SQL & Python: Mastery of advanced ANSI/Snowflake SQL (window functions, CTEs, semi-structured JSON querying) paired with solid Python programming for data extraction and scripting.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Proven track record leading small-to-medium squads, resolving delivery bottlenecks, and mentoring engineers.
- CI/CD & Version Control: Hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD deployment workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI) for automated dbt and database deployments.
Preferred Qualifications
- SnowPro Core or SnowPro Advanced Data Engineer certification.
- dbt Certified Developer credential.
- Experience with workflow orchestrators (Apache Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect).
- Background in cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
