Job summary

ABB Energy Industries in Bengaluru/Pune, India seeks an Engineering Manager to lead SIS design, engineering, testing and commissioning. You will apply safety lifecycle concepts and IEC 61508/61511 standards while deploying SIS across oil & gas, chemicals, and pharmaceutical projects.

The role requires collaboration across design, instrumentation, and control teams with occasional travel for site commissioning. The work model is hybrid, based in India.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Instrumentation, Electronics or Electrical.
• 6–8 years of SIS design, engineering, testing and commissioning experience.
• Experience in oil & gas, chemicals, petrochemical or pharmaceutical industries.
• Knowledge of IEC 61508/61511 and Safety Lifecycle.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design, engineering, testing and commissioning of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
• Prepare safety requirements specifications, alarm specifications, cause and effect diagrams, system block diagrams, function/logic diagrams.
• Develop SIS hardware, software, and HMI graphics.
• Perform FAT/SAT, loop checks, and commissioning activities.
• Support design verification according to applicable standards and guidelines.

Engineering Manager

In this role, you will have the opportunity to design, engineering, testing and commissioning of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). Each day, you will complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects.

This role is contributing to the Process Automation business for Energy Industries division based in Bangalore / Pune, India.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Experienced in the selection, specification, configuration, testing and maintenance of safety instrumented systems (SIS) following IEC 61508/ 61511.
• Experience in oil & gas, chemicals process knowledge, strong understanding of process units and business drivers.
• Experience and knowledge of instrument and control systems through design
• Ability to design and engineer SIS using safety requirements specifications, alarm specification, cause and effect diagrams, system block diagrams, logic narratives and function / logic block diagrams.
• Proficient with SIS hardware design, system design, software design, application programming and HMI graphics development.
• Proficient with SIS design including functional design specifications, response time calculations, test specifications and SIL verification calculations
• Utilising checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelines.

Qualifications for the role:

• Full-time BE /B Tech (Instrumentation / Electronics / Electrical).
• 6 to 8 years of experience in SIS design, engineering, testing, commissioning and consulting experience of Control and Safety Systems in oil & gas production / refining / petrochemical / pharmaceutical industry.
• Working knowledge of the Safety Lifecycle and participation in functional safety assessments.
• Working knowledge of IEC61508 and IEC61511.
• Proficiency in Safety System design, application programming, hardware design, and HMI graphics development.
• Experience in safety system hardware inspection, FAT, SAT, loop checks, start-up and commissioning.
• Thorough understanding of P&ID symbology and presentation techniques
• Must be willing to travel to customer sites for commissioning activities of SIS.
