Job summary

Astrome is seeking a highly skilled C++ developer to build a high-performance simulation engine for adaptive-step numerical integration of physical systems. You will ensure numerical accuracy with quaternion-based rotations, and design parallel, memory-efficient compute models across cores.

The role requires multi-threading, memory management, and integration with third-party C/C++ libraries, plus Python tooling. Experience with Kalman filtering and orbital mechanics is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in modern C++ (11/14/17+).
  • Experience with adaptive-step ODE integration and linear algebra.
  • Multithreading with std::thread and race-condition/false-sharing avoidance.
  • Manual memory management and safe integration with 3rd-party libraries.
  • Quaternion/rotation math and coordinate frame transforms.
  • Experience with CMake and unit testing (GoogleTest or similar).
  • Python scripting for tooling/testing.
  • Kalman/Bayesian filtering theory.
  • Attitude/rigid-body dynamics background and orbital mechanics basics.
  • Familiarity with TLE formats.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a high-performance simulation engine with adaptive-step numerical integration.
  • Ensure numerical accuracy and stability in quaternion-based rotations and frame transforms.
  • Design cache-friendly memory structures and multi-threaded execution models.
  • Evaluate intra-job CPU parallelism strategies (serial, OpenMP, MPI) for workload scale.
  • Implement Kalman-filter-based state estimation fusing sensor measurements.

Job description

Functional Focus: High-Performance Computing, Numerical Methods, and Physics Simulation
  • Simulation Engine Development: Write high-performance C++ code for adaptive-step numerical integration of physical systems, handling multiple perturbation/force models
  • Numerical Accuracy & Stability: Implement quaternion-based rotational dynamics and coordinate frame transformations, ensuring zero memory leaks when integrating third-party C/C++ scientific libraries
  • Shared-Memory Optimization: Design cache-friendly memory structures and multi-threaded execution models that avoid race conditions and false sharing across compute cores
  • Parallel Compute Strategy: Evaluate and implement intra-job CPU parallelism strategies — serial, shared-memory (e.g. OpenMP), or message-passing (e.g. MPI) —appropriate to workload scale
  • State Estimation: Implement Kalman-filter-based state estimation that fuses multiple sensor measurements — prediction, innovation, Jacobian assembly, and correction
