Job summary

Barclays seeks a Service Risk Assessment Engineering Lead to design, develop and improve software infrastructure and delivery pipelines. You will build scalable, secure systems and guide teams in Agile delivery while aligning with risk and governance requirements.

You will lead cross‑functional engineering efforts, mentor engineers, and ensure robust automation, testing and observability across the tech stack. This role can be based in Pune.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience designing scalable enterprise apps using Angular, Java/Spring and Python.
  • Strong background in distributed systems, API engineering and cloud-native infra.
  • Proven leadership in agile delivery, risk controls and technical governance.

  • Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions with scalable, secure code.

Job description

Step into the role of Service Risk Assessment Engineering Lead at Barclays, where you will support and spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting‑edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions.


You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in role such as:



  • Angular (v18+) & TypeScript with expertise in building scalable, responsive enterprise applications.

  • Java / Spring Boot for microservices, REST APIs, and backend architecture.

  • Python for automation, API development, data processing, and AI/ML integration.

  • System Design & Architecture including distributed systems, event‑driven design, and scalability patterns.

  • API Engineering using REST, OpenAPI/Swagger, authentication (OAuth2/JWT), and integration patterns.

  • Database Expertise across SQL (PostgreSQL/MS SQL) and NoSQL solutions.

  • Data Engineering Exposure including ETL pipelines and analytics integrations.

  • DevOps & CI/CD using Git, GitLab/Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift.

  • Automated Testing including unit, integration, API, and UI test automation.

  • Agile Delivery Leadership with experience leading Scrum teams and managing technical roadmaps.

  • Stakeholder & Team Leadership including mentoring engineers, code reviews, technical governance, and translating business requirements into solutions


Desirable Skills Sets


  • Cloud Platforms (AWS) and cloud‑native application development.

  • AI/GenAI Integration using LLMs, RAG, LangChain, prompt engineering, and AI services.

  • Micro Frontend Architecture and enterprise UI design patterns.

  • Event Streaming Technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.

  • Observability & SRE Practices including Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics.

  • Security Engineering with knowledge of OWASP, secure coding, and IAM.

  • Performance Engineering for frontend, APIs, and database optimization.

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Ansible.

  • Financial Services / Regulated Environment Experience with risk, compliance, governance, and audit requirements

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.


Accountabilities


  • Development and delivery of high‑quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.

  • Cross‑functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.

  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.

  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.

  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
