Job summary

Tata Communications is seeking a Senior Server Engineer for IT Operations & Infrastructure in Chennai. You will own L3 server, storage, virtualization and cloud platforms, leading upgrades and migrations while mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities include administering Windows/Linux, VMware/KVM, HPE SAN, and AWS resources, with focus on security, backups, DR, and audits. Strong scripting and certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Administer Windows/Linux server environments at scale.
• VMware ESXi/vSphere and KVM administration with HA/DR features.
• HPE SAN storage management: LUN provisioning, zoning, capacity monitoring.
• AWS provisioning and security controls (EC2, S3, IAM).
• Patch management and patch/hardening of OS and hypervisor.
• Backups/DR: validate restores, run DR tests.
• Plan upgrades, migrations and technology refresh initiatives.
• Document HLD/LLD, SOPs and runbooks; assist audits.
• Mentor engineers; coordinate with OEMs and partners.

Role & responsibilities

Senior Server Engineer - IT Operations & Infrastructure

Purpose of Role: Provide L3 support and technical ownership for servers (Windows & Linux), SAN/storage (HPE), virtualization (VMware/KVM) and cloud (AWS) platforms. Lead project upgrades, migrations and technology refreshes.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer Windows Server & Linux environments at enterprise scale.
• VMware ESXi/vSphere administration including all cluster/HA/DR features; KVM administration for Linux virtualization.
• Storage (HPE SAN) management: LUN provisioning, SAN zoning, capacity monitoring and performance tuning.
• AWS administration: resource provisioning (EC2, S3, IAM), security controls & resource optimization.
• Manage security: patch management, OS & hypervisor hardening, vulnerability/PT remediation per Pentest findings.
• Backups & DR: manage NetBackup/Commvault or Veeam schedules, validate restores, execute DR tests.
• Plan & execute infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh initiatives.
• Author documentation: HLD/LLD, SOP, runbooks; assist audit & compliance (SOX, PCI, ISO 27001 as applicable).
• Mentor junior engineers; coordinate with OEM (VMware, HPE, AWS) and 3rd-party service partners.

Preferred candidate profile

4-8 years in enterprise server & storage environments, VMware VCP 6.x/7.x, AWS (Associate level experience), strong scripting (PowerShell/Shell).

Deep knowledge of SAN/LUN management on HPE systems, VMware cluster design, Windows/Linux patching.

Experience in backup software and cloud security domains.

Troubleshooting / RCA skills for complex multi-tier applications.
